Title: Allotment progress: January...up to date!
Post by: Deb P on January 19, 2007, 18:40:30
This is the allotment today!
The garlic and shallots are growing strongly, some beds are under black plastic, others have a topping of manure. One of the back beds has my transplanted strawberry plants, which may end up on the 'fruit side' later on! The rosemary bushes still have tiny mauve flowers on, and to the right of them I've used some of the old gravel to make a low herb bed over some weed suppressing membrane.

The manure pile is smaller, but still under wraps as it's too wet to dig and get the couch remains out yet. ::)

The greenhouse glass was in......but now the back is all broken in the gales! Ho hum. The box to the right surrounds the old well, which at present is almost full to the top.....

View across the left side of the plot....nothing new to see, just nice light!

That's it so far! Here is a quick summary to show what I've been up to over the past 6 months....... August on the left...January on the right..... ::) ;D

There are all sorts of barriers between the plots, everyone has something different, all sorts of homemade structures!

One thing I haven't got on mine is a hedge at the front, which I didn't like at first, until I realised the dodgy front fence panel lifted up so manure could be dropped straight on the plot!

That's so impressive Deb, hope you are well chuffed with the organisation and layout. Lovely rosemary outside g'house, given me the idea of rosemary and lavender to brush past on the way in and out of our own. Really inspiring work and organisation, its going to be a joy to potter about in too! Thank you for some wonderful photos at a dull time of year ;) ;D ;D

I know you are on the list for a second Deb but if you want to help tidy up the front of 120 (opposite) you can put some spuds in there....

I'm getting a bit worried now, the spuds I've ordered haven't arrived yet!
Might take you up on that offer if (as I suspect) I've over ordered.... ;D

Ha ha ha ha ha  ;D

Finished.......your plot is never actually finished is it?! :o

I've just been bad and bought another 2nd hand greenhouse on eBay, as it was cheaper than buying the glass I now have missing from mine after the gales. It also comes with some wooden staging that would cost me more than I've just paid for the whole lot! Well pleased! Probably won't be so thrilled when I've got to go and dismantle it this weekend though.... ::)
