Title: whats your number?
Post by: cambourne7 on January 08, 2007, 18:35:13
Hi

I have just finished cataloging my seeds ( veg, herb and flower ) and excluding what i have ordered i appear to have a bizzare number of seeds.

I was wondering how many do other people have.

My number is 179! ( packets not seeds )

shock !

oh crikey cam 194 :o
500m2 here, two and a half plots - say 350m2 under cultivation, excluding g'house, paths, compost bins
erm it would appear you're not alone :-[

excuses?

several have just a few seeds
large variety of e.g. beetroot, squash
some won't be grown this year if their seeds will keep
some have lasted, and will last, a long time e.g. perennial herbs
I'll be offering some nearer the 'plant by' date
at least they're sorted out ::)

:-[

erm, did you include e.g. potato, fruit bushes and onion sets expected in the post :P

Nope, not going to count.  I fear I would be looking in the region of 200 packets of veggie seeds and a lot more flower/shrub seeds as I receive them from around the world, or from friends and rellies when they get them!

They're coming to take me away..ha ha..he he.. ho ho 8)

Erm, around 320 packets of veg seed I believe  :-[

Is it very wrong to have them all listed alphabetically?

Only a few more varieties needed now though ;D

nothing wrong with 320 packs of seeds.......but listed alphabetically.......on a spreadsheet ....... now that is scary ;D ;D

Are they listed by sowing times as well ;) ;D

I got a bit carried away with peas - 8 packs at the Wyevale sale earlier in the year, then two packs of Telephone and two packs of Alderman..........

I can't compete with MT but my 150+ are on a spreadsheet, not alphabetical but grouped by type: brassica, roots, flowers etc - so could a small cell be reserved for me too in case my world domination plan fails?

I blame the internet....  ;D

Title: Re: whats your number?
Post by: cambourne7 on January 09, 2007, 12:15:42
I have world domination on my list right after giving power to the people ( and putting the people who annoy me aginst the wall citizin smith style) and once i have finished adding to my access DB of plants split by genus the harvest dates, url on where i can find information and where i have planted them.

You can't have too many peas SMP1704... we usually go on to "Invade Poland" but it's been done and now in reverse???
Must try World Domination when I retire... first the allotment site... then the world!

Well, I'm obviously a mere novice, only 60 packets of seeds :( Still, I've only been growing veg since last spring, so who knows, in a few years, I may reach 3 figures too.

It really does get to be an obsession , doesnt it :o

I daren't look  ::) Got to sort them all out into date order this week and it's a mammoth task  ::)

I'm addicted to seed-buying.

My rationale is: I don't buy shoes, clothes, make-up, handbags, take recreational drugs of any kind, go on holidays, go to the pub, have expensive haircuts etc.

Therefore I am entitled to peruse 'garden porn' (seed catalogues) at my leisure and buy whatever I desire :D

i must have about 40 packets of seeds, flowers and veg. doesnt seem too bad till you take into account i dont actually have anywhere to grow them ;D
(i have 4 storage boxes for growing bunny greens, and i did have a plastic greenhouse but that died during the gales :()
