Title: steamer
Post by: ACE on December 11, 2006, 09:14:35
I am a person who likes his food cooked to destruction, but we were eating at a friends the other night and the veggies were done in an electric steamer. I really enjoyed them, they were not hard as expected and a lot more tasty than usual.

We decided to get one, only £15, and I am converted. I know you can do the same thing on the cooker, but this thing has a timer and safety switch and no kitchen full of steam.

I expect I am preaching to the converted, but if you have not got one, put it on your xmas wish list.

Incredibly cheap!!

But I'll stick to the old fashioned thing + tight lid & kitchen timer.

I'm with Tim - been using one for about 8 years now. It works well inside our existing pans and is as cheap as sprouts :)

Just bought a 5 tier one, a Judge, for 36.00 including vat and postage.  Had my previous 2 tier for ages until fatal accident!  Has a bain marie as well.  Is really great.  Unfortunately, not small for storage.  However, you might just have a look at this site :

Happy steaming whatever you decide  :D

I'm with Tim and Barnowl! Have had ours for 25 years, and still going strong. Used nearly everyday!

I'm pretty well with tim and barnowl - we have the traditional chinese bamboo steamers.  Cost - approximately £2.00 for two baskets and lid.  Efficiency - wonderful.
