I'm sitting at my desk at work and a Red Admiral butterfly has just been flapping at the window – surely it's much too late for them to still be around?!? don't they migrate somewhere warmer for the winter?

Or hibernate?

Quite a few seen here in the South East. Today and previously. What a privilege. :D

We're on the northern edge of their range here; they do attempt to hibernate, but survival this far north is rare. We get so many because immigrants from southern Europe and northern Africa raise a brood during summer.
