Silly Billy. Alishka will not be amused ;D I have quite a few buckets now, I found them much better than gro bags to use in the greenhouse. One thing they won't go bad.

Anyone have any suggestions
suggest you run for the hills before alishka reads this thread!!
you can start off leeks, grow tomatoes, loads of things. they come in handy for supports for scaffolding planks to hold all your seedlings in spring....who needs fancy staging. :P
-
sssshhhhh - don't be yelling so loudly, she gets really cross you know !
-
It's O.K. folks I have thrown a rope round her to stop her waving her fists at Silly Billy and as a kind person sent her chocolates her mouth is probably too full of the chocs to shout!! ::)
-
Did you blag them or are they on offer generally?
There are two branches near me, but I don't go there are they seem to be the exclusive domain of Saga louts.
Could try the day before pension day....
-
I got 8 for 99p at Morrison's filling station yesterday. I have stacks of containers but couldn't resist the bargain ::).

Nuts! I was in Morrisons today and I forgot to ask!! GGRR

*/^!=*%+
Anyone live near Bletchley Park? ;D
-
No sorry Lish but I am sure they still have them on the Isle of Wight 8)
-
I don't like this thread :'(
(sniff)....and now I've been called a Saga Lout :-[
;D
-
Well?
BTW my Dad worked at Bletchley Park but that was some 60+ years ago when he was working on breaking the Enigma code.
-
Saga louts, how I luuurrrrvvvvve that expression!!! Chuckle, chuckle. ;D ;D
-
I don't - it sounds aawwfffuullll to one who, from age point of view could be called one :o :o :o ??? ::) :'(

Watch this space! (my eternal optimism is pathetic, even to me...)
Made a pitstop at the Co-Op (see Tim's thread.. 30yrs... oven liners...tomatoes....laxative effect of... in Recipes) & confronted the Front-of-House peeps re: their Black Buckets...
No, they don't sell their used buckets
Yes, they probably junk them
Yes, they'll save any for me
Yes, they'll have a delivery of fresh flowers on Saturday, and
YESSSSS I'll be hitting the store on Sunday
8) ;D
Oh! and how many do I want?
Ans= as many as you've got
:D
-
Don't worry - not all over **'s are Saga Louts. I'm referring to the type that seem to go round in packs (coats on even in high summer), standing in everyone's way and complaining. Someone else I know refers to this tribe as cauliflower heads ;D
-
but I LIKE being a Saga Lout! Since reading the expression I've already been working my way into the stereotype ;D
-
That is so like my MIL... even her daughter agrees!
;D
-
"Someone else I know refers to this tribe as cauliflower heads"
Someone I know calls them the White Woolies.
Strongly disapprove, as I am old enough (though not yet white or permed).
-

ROFL that's what we do in our family!
I'm referring to the type that seem to go round in packs (coats on even in high summer), standing in everyone's way and complaining
Ain't that the truth?! ;D The Cauli Mafia I call them. I actually got barged and knocked over by them at the bus stop once for daring to try and get on first (even though I'd been there about twenty minutes longer hehehehe)

omg it's not fake! i went to morrisons, today and they had them! 8 buckets for 99p. so i bought 16 of them. i then used a pointy bit of metal heated up to melt drainage holes in them.
-
Wahaj, I used to like you, but.......you've been here, what? five minutes? you're boasting about a plethora of Black Buckets... you've obviously joined the Global Conspiracy to Wind Me Up?........
and so, I say to you..
may your Poppies be Poxed, and
your Petunias be Poleaxed
Other than that, I wish you well

Lish. Stop being silly (almost bordering on pathetic) Just jump in that nice little car of yours, motor down to your nearest Morrisons. Smile sweetly at the nice young man in charge of buckets (I know you can) and your prayers will be answered. I promise you it will work. I am going out for rest of the day so don't ring to give me abuse ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
LOL @ Lorna....pathetic - me?
When I went to the Co-op & fronted them about their Black Buckets I actually said "and I'm a Member of the Society, you know"....now, how pathetic was that? :-[
;D
Let's see what happens, but until I've got the darned things I'm still believing that these alleged Black Buckets are a Global Conspiracy....paranoid, me? Never !!!
ps......remembered that of course I won't be here on Sunday - going away for a long w/end....actually called in to the Co-Op to tell them that I wouldn't be there til Tuesday night.....now, how pathetic is that?
-
you lot are totally mad, and utterly wonderful, enjoy your evening out lorna and enjoy your hols alishka, xx
-
Thanks for the good wishes, 'busta... :)

Hi
Just been to morrisons and they still have loads left!
Added bonus is that i have nearly earned another £5 voucher from the petrol station so i am going to pick up a large lidded box so i can leave some things in the shed ( not waterproof yet ) up on the site.
and some of these magic black pots.
I am guessing that you have drilled holed in the bottom?
I am going to fill them with compost with a nice clod of clay in the bottom and cover with plastic sheeting will Mid January. Then i am going to look at planting something in early as suggested :-)
I have a table with a removable lid, the table is wood so it can serve as a mini greenhourse when its covered in plastic.
watch this space
- my the way your all a little insane you know? ;D
-
just a little????? ;D ;D ;D :P
-
Stuff a black bucket over their heads spin them around and point them up another aisle.
I don't really mind the old buffers, except when my breakfast is getting cold while they dither about with their purses at the tescos cafe.
And talking about tescos why do tesco shoppers take their rug rats shopping with them. I have to go to sainsburys to shop as there is a better class of shopper in there.
I only go to morrisons for petrol and buckets, loads of them usually 10 for a pound and more than you can carry.
-
If you go to Morrisons on a Monday morning, as soon as they open, you can often get more than 8 black flower buckets for 99p - best I've got is 15 for 99p.
-
Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!!!! :o :o :o :o :o
I DON'T CARE!!!!!!!!!!!
oops..sorry
-
I got 63 for £1.98 .... :D Yes I typed that correctly ...

first time I've seen this thread too. I'm going into the nearest supermarket to me flashing my poorly plastered arm and see if they take pity on me and let me have some of these very attractive plastic designer buckets. Will keep you posted as to what I can scrounge.. pmsl

Well!....I went to the Co-Op, got 22 black buckets (OK, strictly speaking, some were more grey than black, but you're getting the idea)? and the total cost was.........

AND, nice girl said they'd other sizes, too, if I was interested? Now howzabout that for twisting the knife.....smaller ones for ring culture, middle sized ones for carrots, larger ones for....dunno.....a stupendous celeriac perhaps?
And My Friend Wahaj has quite forgiven me, I'm sure..I'm sending him a couple of vouchers for free heathers from Wyvale...I'm only waiting for him to tell me his favourite colour & I'll throw in a can of spray paint as well ;D

WOT! cat got yer tongues? :P
-
Are those the biodegradable buckets that the co-op use. Don't leave them out in the rain. You can tell if they are not the everlasting ones because they are not quite black ;D
-
Yes, but what can you usefully do with 48 black buckets on an allotment? In my innocence, I thought the point of allotment gardening was to plant stuff in the ground. . . Please demystify me with some good ideas!
-
OK Buster I paid 99p for 8buckets over on the Isle Of Wight.. Ace. I have just fell about laughing, I know she is a friend but just imagine if all her buckets landed up in a horrible mess, there wouldn't be enough BLEEPS to put in her conversation :o :o :o
-
Our local supermarket pays us to take their buckets away ...... ;) ;D
-
roflmao ........ bio-degradeable ?????? she'll go ballistic. (http://img116.exs.cx/img116/1231/z7shysterical.gif)
and do you know what Little Weed, in all the fuss I have actually forgotten what they are for !!! lol.
To use them for ring culture thingies, you have to cut the bottom out (right pain), they are useful to confine things such as mint and rampant wotsits that like to take over your garden/plot but you have to make drainage holes with sharp hot implements trying not to gas yourself while you do it.
I also have about 6 all over the garden so i have a handy bucket available for prunings, nibbled tomatos, dead leaves and the like, oh and i've got carrots, spring onions and evening primrose in them as i've run out of ground.
what i'm going to do with the other 40 is a mystery, but when you see them, you have to have them.
;D

rofl @ ACE and the Hound

Lishka
-
yup. i've forgiven lishka. even though all my seed are gone when my bf left them outside and it rained heavily...and....well it was a big mush with some seeds allover. so god knows what's what. i've just chucked them around the garden hoping something will germinate and surprise me next year haha.
so her curse did work!
-
H A L L E L U I A H ! ! !
-
Oh Wahaj, all your beautiful poppy seeds....still, bet they'll germinate & you'll have Flags of Denmark all over the place next year ;D I left my box of seeds out in the rain earlier this year...the packets were sodden but the seeds were OK in their little foil packets.....cept for the runner bean seeds of course :o So I cooked them ;D
-

yea i mean some of them are ok....but i'm not too sure what's what. most of the packets have had the ink washed off.
but yea i'll probably use the poppies in cooking aswell. probably sprinkle them on bread.
-
Well it worked. I got 5 lovely black buckets for free. Going back next week to get some more.
-
Well done Shirl! Welcome to my Elite Club 8)
pssst! you left them out in the rain yet? They OK, like?
;D
-
I am going to get some of these bins ( using my free £5 voucher from petrol at morrisons so nearly free ) and i though that i would use these burried in my raised beds with perenials or perminant flowering plants. They can then be lifted into the shed over winter.
-
What happens when they are left out in the rain then. Do they disintegrate or start breeding.lmao. Really haven't had much choice about leaving them out in the rain. Greenhouse is full of rubbish at the moment and can't really do much till I get this bloody straight jacket off me arm. It's coming off on 18th October so if you see or hear about a whirlwind in the brummagem vicinity, It will be me making up for lost time. I've so much to do. I've put on half a stone cos I havent had any good excercise.
-
Shirl. The only ones that may disintergrate are the ones Alishka got GIVEN to her!!!
Hope all goes well on 18th.
Lorna

hehehheee

It's that b***er ACE thinking he's sooooooooo clever starting these rumours to wind me up......huh! Would I be taken in by something so patently stooooopid?
Would I ???
;D

Its true, try googling biodegradable buckets ;D
And remember I 've said it before and I'll say it again.
HALF THE LIES I TELL AIN'T THE TRUTH
