Title: Hairy Broad Bean Tubes!
Post by: Sparky on April 04, 2004, 19:32:09
Planted my broad beans in toilet rolls last week.  They haven't come through yet but I seem to be growing lots of hairy white mouldy stuff on the outsides instead?

Should i bin them or ignore the mould?  Will the beans still be ok?

My aqua dulce broadbeans are flowering too while they are still kind of low. The ones in toilet rolls are ready to go out too, some of them will fill the gaps in the aqua dulces and they will get pink ribbons to tell the diffenrence later so I can keep sort by sort. I don't like to mix big and small types or brown and white cookers.

Broad beans usuall take 7-14 days to germinate (although mine are only now showing after 3 weeks), the loo roll tubes almost always get a fungal growth but its harmless enough...the only problem I've had with this method is the amount of time the tubes take to rot down.
Good luck with them anyway, they'll grow when they're ready!
