Title: Fish below the surface!
Post by: gardenqueen on June 13, 2006, 21:50:28
For about a month my goldfish and one tench have remained out of sight! I know they are there because when I feed them I can see the waterlily leaves moving about! Their normal habit, apart from the tench, was to come up to the side of the pond when I approached over the gravel path. I could also see them at other times swimming near the surface.

Any ideas why this has happened?

My fish disappear during the winter and were late surfacing this summer.  However, they are up now but go down now n then if they are being distrubed.  They also go down if they have had a fright with i.e.  the Heron visiting.  Is it possible Mr Heron ahs put in an appearance.  Other than that I have no other explanation for you.

Carol, it's quite possible that a heron may well have visited.  :-\ Although I know there are fish in the pond I am not sure how many! The water in the pond is darker than usual so that makes seeing anything rather difficult. I don't want to put a net in to find out in case I distress them.
