Title: bulb storage
Post by: littlegem on May 30, 2006, 13:57:21
the containers in my front had all sorts of bulbed flowers. the other day I had to lift all the bulbs to make way for new compost and climbers etc. A lot of the bulbs still had the wilted greenery (not so green!) on. What do I do with them now? do i wash them or leave them with soil on? do i cut off the foilage or wait for it to fall off? where do I store them?

All advice gratefully received   :)

Let it all dry off, then clean up. Cut off the old withered stems and rub the soil off, try not to remove any papery coat from the bulbs. Check for pests (there is a kind of greenfly which lives in between the paperey coat and the first layer of tulips), Then store cool, dark and vermin free!
