Title: Adding manure

We have been planting up our new plot and havent added any manure/compost.Following my reading up on some of the plants we have planted (raspberries,blackberries,rhubarb and several fruit trees) I have learnt that they like plenty of manure.As I havent done this I was wondering if I could lay it around the plants like a mulch and if they would get the benefit of the manures goodness.
Is there anyother way of adding it?
