Title: Blanket Weed - Do Taddies Eat it?
Post by: Svengali on April 03, 2006, 19:32:08
I deliberately left a large patch of blanket weed in my pond to provide food for my squillions of taddies before they move on to protein - but do they eat it?
I can't remove it now anyway, or I would drag taddies out with it.

Looks like this one has everyone baffled - In short I'd say I don't know if I had to put my house on it I'd say "No" - Is there any chance you can monitor the situation and let us know your findings?

I would say yes to this, however I would suggest that there are pleanty of other algae in the water for the taddys to eat.  Be rid of the blanket week, for they will not eat it all.

I have been struck dumb for the last few days, as apparently my firewall has decided that this is not a very nice site, and has refused to let me post!
Have made adjustments, and will now see if this posting actually appears!

I would say 'Yes' from past experience.
However, as Cliff said, they couldn't eat it all.
It's a pernicious weed, try and remove as much as you can. Try and plant shade plants to discourage the stuff!
