Golden syrup for me any day!

I haven't made a sweet one for ages Tim, thanks for reminding me!

Has to be golden syrup - and seconds :P ;D

Actually, grawrc - neither. I over-pre-cooked the toads, didnt want to do them any more, so served them separately!!

So now there's some left over for pud. So long as it's really hot & crispy, I do like the brown sugar treatment.

I'm a golden syrup on YP fan by upbringing, though I loved onion Yorkies too, which rather put paid to the dessert...  Mum eventually gave up and put onions at one end only.

It's the one thing I miss about not doing Sunday lunch and no longer touching beef! (That and Mum won't give me either of her pudding tins...)

Yes - normally I have to do 2 - one for the veggies.

Great idea moonbells, have been inspired! Toad in one corner, onions in the other, bananas in the third and one plain? ;D ;D

I am Soooo envious of your YP.  HOW do you make them like that???

I have tried numerous times with almost numerous failures.

Any helpful tips?

Aunt Bessies, via Asda-the only chance of success here, filled with casserole and called Flat Cap Yorkies. Never had a sweet one, sounds very tempting.

No secret - it's AWT's recipe.

Equal volume of each.

That was 6 eggs(300ml), & 300ml of milk & flour.

Come on tim. Oven temp? For how long? Do you heat the tin beforehand? Dripping or lard? ???
Title: Re: Butter & brown sugar?
Post by: tim on March 29, 2006, 20:17:06
Oh, good God yes! Like 400F+ - till it's smoking they say, but I like to catch it before that. If I have duck fat I use it, but n'importe! Depends on the veggies.

25-35 min? Depends upon how big. Until it looks right. And then a bit more, to stop it collapsing. Prefer crispy rather than traditional flab! The one in the pic went back in the oven for a few minutes.

make sure too you use PLAIN flour, Self Raising makes em sink!!
Oh and do try a tray like that with Boursin crumbled in before cooking, not good for the hips but very good on the tastebuds, and goes so well with Beef! ;D

Looks mouth watering Tim.  I usually love my yorkshire pudding, savoury.  I do a veggie sausage toad in the hole with onions and veggie gravy, which is yummy! I have never had YP as a desert before which is intriguing.  Quite fancy the ice cream one too.  :P busy_lizzie

okaaay....

Shall be roasting a chicken for tea and will resist the urge to delve into the
freezer for auntie bessie ;D.
Spurred on by your obvious cooking prowess Tim, I shall make yorkshire puddings
as follows:-
preheat oven (fan-assisted, so guessing 220C & maybe shelf second from top??)
make batter; muffin tins containing lard in oven until smoking hot;
pour in batter and cook 20-25 mins;

fingers crossed & hope for best...

Shall read instructions for new digi camera and take piccie if I decipher how to do it :-\

I shall take a piccie, and read instructions carefully...

Tim...

I LOVE YOU   :-*

...was a bit dubious with a recipe which was volume measures for dry ingredients, but
the yorkies were a huge, and i mean HUGE success. My children could not believe it
and neither could hubby who brought ready made YP's back from the supermarket.
The recipe quantities made 12 YP's in a muffin tin

Was on a bit of a roll and also made a raspberry pavlova for pud   :P

Debs :-*

P.S. I have taken piccies on digital camera but cannot work out the posting of piccies

Yes indeed - but one step at a time. You still have to have a photomanipulatory program??

You still have to have a photomanipulatory program??

You normally get a photo editting package with a camera these days? If not, then MS photoeditor comes with Windows, although it is not automatically installed with XP, you have to install it manually.

You're SO right, Curry!!

That's why I was asking her what facilities she had - & how she was approaching it -  so that I could gently steer from there.

Dare I ask whether you've gone the photobucket route? All else failed miserably for me but managed that ok. Just remember you don't have to click on 'insert image' when you do it this way. Best of luck, keen to see 'The Real Thing'.

You do NOT have to pay Dan - much as I love him. If you just follow the Photbucket thingy & either select a URL or an IMG you can still post here. It just takes a little longer.
