Title: I want one of these
Post by: ACE on March 19, 2006, 11:23:09
I am trying to trace the name of a small  tree (12') which is an Acer, and it comes from the Pyrenees.

The striking thing about this tree is that, the colder it gets the more intense is the colour of the bark, which is bright flamingo pink.

I have found a snakeskin bark variety with pink bark and white striping, but I want the pure pink variety. I think it is fairly newish to our markets. Can anybody help me.

Look here http://www.ubcbotanicalgarden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1611
If this is the tree then it is fairly easily purchased.

It certainly sounds like the one I am after, but I have only seen it with bare branches that have pink bark. The foliage is secondary as I want it for the unusual winter colour. Thanks for the info I will look into it further.

I know this sounds pretty obvious but you're not thinking about the coral bark maple (Acer palmatum Senkaki/Sangu Kaki ) are you? The new stems are bright pink tho' this disappears in older stems.  (I know it's not new to us & doesn't come from the pyrenees but I thought I'd ask anyway!!!!)
