Always good stuff in Lidl's...not tacky...and the price is right too.
Typical are the seeds 49pence for what elswhere would cost £1.99p.

There bigger they call them Seed Bed Protection Tunnel 2x5 metre's and come with arches pieces pegs and ropes

Here's the weblink for all the gardening offers at Lidls. I can heartily recommend the tools as they've stood up to the abuse I've given them in the last two weeks while creating the beds.

LIDL's offers were already out this evening!!!!! I called in this evening on the way to my evening class to see what time they open tomorrow morning and they had ALL their offers for tomorrow already out ;D I came away with loads as they also had available the large "greenhouses" which were not supposed to be available in our area...
Only problem was that I didn't expect them to be available already, so forgot to get a hoe... may have to pop back again tomorrow (and empty my car in the meantime, as it is now FULL ::)

i've already warned the office that i'll be in late this morning (thank goodness for flexitime) so i can be on their doorstep at opening.
i hope they've still got something left. i'm after the minigreenhouse, a hoe and i do like the ankle boots.

I got one of the Japanese saws for woodwork, £6.99 and I've used one before and was very impressed. They were selling them at £29.99 at the Yorkshire Show, may be better quality, but the Lidl one looks great. I got the folding pruning saw last year, and would recommend that, it works a treat, just as good as a £17.50 Felco one. The timers are good too. Keep your eyes open for more goodies please, Thanks.

Yes the green and black folding saw was 2.99. Went through a 2" Hawthorn branch with no effort, a great buy. I've given my vote to the slug traps coming in the next sales batch at Lidl, got some last year £1.49 the pair, plus some cheap lager, and a happy death to all slugs. I just throw the bodies into the bottom of my hedge, and they get eaten, so it's very wildlife friendly. The stainless steel tools look good, and get the thumbs up from Mutant Hobbit, good price too. Noticed they had border plants as bare rooted divisions for 59p for 2 to 3 plants, got some Eryngium, and Geranium to see how the do. They looked healthy, and fresh, with life in all the plants, so they're potted up and in the cold frame now.

Went early (well 9.45) and got 3 of the poly tunnel/cloches - seem great as they let air in and can be tied at each end and if the plastic doesn't last another year I can use fleece or viromesh or even net curtains!. Going on bus so didn't get anything bigger but the minigreenhouse/coldframe looked good for £12.99. Didn't need tools but am going to have a look in tomorrow and see what the fruit "bushes" are like - at 99p??? Might beworth trying the blueberries if they still have them............

I can't get there til Sunday and it's going to be quite a dash - Lidle's one end of town & Wilko's t'other......and then there's Poundland, of course :)
I'll deffo get a pruning saw & Wilko's had some good secateurs when I last looked - folding ones which are also a bit of a swiss army knife type thing - little pull out pruning blade & some other things - nothing to get stones out of horses hooves, tho ;D I'm buying stuff to take to America for my new-to-gardening family.Their local Gardening Centres are the pits for tools, so I'm welcoming all the cheapo-but-OK suggestions. Thanks.

got there at the crack of dawn yesterday, as did a few others.
got the mini greenhouse which to put together in theory is simple as, in practice, it's not quite as easy but with a bit of filing and some judicious use of some sticky tape, it might hold together ! bit disappointed with it tbh, but what do you expect for 20 notes. had the added disadvantage of guests arriving before i'd finished it, so it's still sitting on the spare bed waiting to be completed. probably a good thing though as i'd nearly dismantled the whole thing and chucked it back in the car at one stage. ::)
also got a couple of the poly tunnels, the trowel/bulb planter set (didn't have a bulb planter), a hoe (what an evil and wicked looking tool, i'm sure i'll be able to use it lots once i've learned how), new set of gloves, bag of lilies, bags of compost and bark, couple of big pots & saucers, some liquid feed but no boots or clogs :'(
i'll go back for round two after work tonight.

ah you had the bits of misaligned aluminium problem too? I took a hacksaw to mine so I could lock the sides together - have also managed to pop out one of the polycarb sheets but nothing some araldite can't fix.
It is very flimsy but I just wanted something I could dare leave at the lotties and which wouldn't break my heart (or spread glass all over) if the yobs visited.
Now to work out where to put it!

glad it weren't just me moonbells. the concept was quite simple, slide here, slot there, tap this, screw that ....... it very nearly was "SCREW THAT" ;D
a couple of the aluminium edges did fall off but i managed to get them back on without wrecking the sheet. and now there's a bit of nylon string tied tight round the whole thing, just in case. I just feel glad that i bought it that cheap rather than add a tenner postage on (there are a couple of identical frames up on ebay just now for £20 plus postage). i'm not sure what i'm going to put in there yet as i don't know how much protection it will afford but i'm sure i'll find something.

the thing's actually a cold frame, and not too bad. It is cheap and cheerful (proper ones cost over double - I've a glass one at home, that was £45 6 years ago) and if the ground pegs work, with luck it won't blow away! (I have ways of dealing with that - old windows!)
Know where I'm putting it so it will be going up to the lottie tomorrow. Will be an interesting day - I've also got to get two dalek composters up there!

oh don't get me wrong, i will still keep it and use it (when the artic winds have gone) but it IS £20 worth and no more.
just don't be surprised if one bit is a pain to put together !

I bought a sort of mini greenhouse from Lidl last year - but the cover on that was green plasticky sort of stuff. I was very pleased with it and shall bring it out of hibernation soon - was rather hoping they might have had those on offer again this year. Still time I s'pose.

I've had one for a couple of years; it does the job well, and I needed a quick and cheap replacement for my big cold frame after it was nicked. I did track that one down, and the thief was got rid of, but it was the wrong one. I think the guy probably did genuinely lose a similar one, and if so I think I know who took it. He was then told by the then committee that the one on my plot was his. First a pane of glass was mysteriously broken across, and he could identify it for sure by a 'very distinctive cracked pane'. Unfortunately by the time they reported it to the police, I'd already dumped the pane in question, as it was an obvious safety hazard. Then the story changed and it could be identified by a missing pane! The guy came down with the police and claimed to identify it, but they didn't believe him. Then he cut a hole in my fence and took it; a wheelbarrow went at the same time. I found it in his shed and reported him to the Council. I felt sorry for the guy as I felt he'd been manipulated into it, but I wasn't having that. So you see why I wanted a cheapo that nobody would want to nick! It does a good job every year, that's the main thing.

Just back from LIDL. I went to spend a few quid on the poly-cloches, but came back with one of the 'large greenhouses' and the linka-board-style cold frame. Lidl's is addictive - remind me never to go again.
I'm off to the lottie later to put them up. Loads of tomatoes, peppers and chillis for me this year, I think. :)

That's a lightweight digging hoe. Use the prongs to rake through the ground, and the blade to break up lumps.
With a heavier version, I can dig ground at about three times the rate I'd go with a fork, without any strain on my back. It does need to be free from perennial weeds though, apart from nettles. It's the best thing out for breaking up nettle clumps.

oops ... i gave it a wee try cos i really didn't know what to do with it, and then went back to the rake to both break up clumps and rake a level collecting the stones.
isn't that what rakes are made for ? :P
(i will go back to the hoe, perhaps it will get better once i've got used to it).

A rake is for the final levelling out; use the hoe for the initial going-over.

Hi all,
I too got the "lighweight digging hoe" Its pretending to be an azada but it probably won`t last very long. It may be useful on already dug soil. I like right angled, long handled tools so I think I`ll get use from it.
I also like to get a supply of chocolate when I`m in Lidls ;D and beer for my slug traps.

Unfurtunately I can't! The handle of the spade I bought at Lidl broke the first time I used it >:( >:(. I have to admit that a clump of horseradish was involved though... Anyone know where I can buy a sturdy replacement handle?

My replacement handles come from the local market. They have them at Homebase, but they're obviously more expensive.
