I took some compost out of my compost tumbler to see if I could have a subset in a black grow bag while I was adding more scraps for the tumbler. It was fairly broken down & thought I'd see how it would go.
I put a 'lid' on the growbag to keep it waterproof and went to check it today. It has been in for a month now. When I opened it up there was a load of little black beetles happily sitting in the top.
This must be so basic but I don't know if I can still turn this 'subset' compost with the beetles in it. I didn't think beetles were a bad thing but I don't know if they are lawn beetles from the lawn clippings (that had been composting for a couple of months).
I don't want to create a breeding ground for them.
It's just in the interim until I get my second compost bin going. (I don't have enough space in my back yard).
Any advice?
Many Thanks
Anna

Just don't worry about the beetles! It's not possible to say what they are on so little info, but it's highly unlikely that thay're going to be a pest.
