Title: Allotment prices
Post by: iain on January 13, 2006, 10:14:04
Hi I was wondering, how much you lottie holders pay a year for your plots. mine is £7.50 for a half plot, there is no mains water.
There is no shed on my plot, but they are allowed, bit plenty of weeds !!!!!  ::)

Iain.  The allotment I am hoping to get very soon(!) is £3 for half a plot at the moment but going up to £4 for half.  There is no running water there but sheds are allowed too.  It is only a small village site so no shop, toilets or such luxuries!   :'(

Twenty quid a year, sheds allowed, running water, toilets, store open twice a week, security fence with gate code, concrete roadways between plots for easy access. I like it  :)

sounds positively palacial Bupster :)

£18 squid, running water, car-park, fenced with padlocked gate,  and shed s allowed.

We are still council run at the mo, but there is talk of becoming association run - not sure yet how that will effect us!

£10 for small plot (they are all small - it's a city centre site)
stand pipe for water, as well as large communal water butt
concrete path ways between plots
no facilities but that's ok as it's round the corner from everyone's house (only residents of three streets surrounding allotments are allowed one)

£21 for 600sq yds, plus £3 association membership. No water, but secure on individual plots, very few restrictions, no livestock allowed. I think it is excellent value.

£2.10 per 25sq mts!

No dogs, (assume no livestock) no pruning without permission! no hose pipes, no shed without permission, no trading, and dare I say no atmosphere!

We have water troughs with running water, a central tarmac road up between the plots, fencing and security loacks, and a shop that opens both days at w/es.

Half of the site is unused, all in all a council plot!

£34 for 600 square yards, including the Association sub. No sheds over a certain size, no bees, and no notice taken of these rules! The only real rule is, don't be  a nuisance to anyone, but this is suspended for Association secretaries and their spouses! The current one is OK though.

£42.20 for a plot the size of a football field. No water, no shop, no toilets, 1 very rotten shed, and no allotment society. :(

£19.00 for allotment per year, £19.00 ish for water, £1.50 for key to site.

Sheds & buildings seem to be allowed and there is certainly concrete on my plot.  Shop on a Sunday I believe (tho' not found it yet) and have my own loo but too frighted of my resident rats to use !  Security gates, car parking, free leaf mould and bark chipping ... council trimmed privet hedges last week and took away mess.

Ours is an association site rented to us by the council. I pay £15 a year for my plot. (Up from £10 last year). It is about 90x30feet (I think).  :-\  I'll check.
I have 2 sheds and a greenhouse left by previous tenant. There are several standpipes running off the mains and I have a permanent hose connection to my plot. There is a hose junction at my shed which takes water to the plots beyond. There is a high barbed-wire fence round the perimeter and a padlocked gate.

There is parking space and I can also park right at my plot. Main entrance path is largely mud but side paths are grass. Dogs allowed if restrained but no other livestock.

£2.50/perch/year -- I have 17 perch.

We have running water and are allowed sheds, but we have an horrendous deer problem which the council will not resolve.

10 rods = £23 per year, plenty of mains water taps, hosepipes allowed, reasonably secure & supplied with brick built sheds.

Council run it very well, it might have something to do with the fact that 4 of the council parks dept. lads have plots there

£10 pa for 300 sq yds, water troughs, no shed provided but can keep chickens.

Allotments at these prices have to be the bargain of the year!

£36 /year including water rates from April - November. No toilets although plans for a Comfry WC. Sheds allowed but permission needed to plant new trees. No fires even for non compostibles although that has just changed. Need to get permission from council steward.

£36 PA for 600 SQm's (less than 1p I day I used to tell people who screwed their faces up @ the price  ::) )

Running water all year round - BECAUSE I KNOW WHERE THE STOP-TAP IS ... MWUAHHAAAHAAAAAA

Shop - I used to run it when I was Secretary but no-one has replaced me.

No toilets - but we have high hedges!

Lots of restrictions - that no-one takes any notice of

Very good value for money if you ask me. But then very few people do  ;D

High hedges on my site as well. I go in a bucket and put it in a barrel, so I can use it for liquid manure. Much better than throwing it away down a loo.

Title: Re: Allotment prices

Our plots have just gone up, when we moved here they were 50pence each! Now, they're £15. They're part of the local lord of the manor's estate and now come with a long contract which we have to sign. Basically, no livestock, no cutting down the trees (as if I would), no mining for gold. (We keep our chickens in the garden and as we got them before this was verboten, they can stay!)

We have one standpipe and a rubbish heap. The main grass paths are cut occasionally. No loos but the allotments are literally behind our garden gate, so that's not a problem. I got the greenhouse last year, before the new rules. Now, you have to ask permission. Same with sheds.

I misread your post for a moment there, Rowan - thought your chickens were mining for gold. Wonderful image. I had them in sepia tones with little tin hats.

Is there a lot of gold where you are?

3 pounds per plot, and I have 2.  No water, apart from the ditch, no loos, no parking and no security.  However, it is tranquil, fabulous soil, and we can have sheds and greenhouses!

Charge on ours is £7.20 per rod, standard plot is 5 rods so annual rent is of course £36.00. We have stand pipes & water tanks, a rubbish dump & have sheds, greenhouses & various other structures. Manure is delivered on an irregular basis.

Bill just in - O.A.P. rate of £15 (up from £6 last year) plus £2.50 Association fee so total of £17.50 for approx 100(+-) x 30 ft,  shed provided, own g'house, standpipes, parking, weekly removal of rubbish, composting toilet -I think full rate is about double the concessionary rate.

Food and drink provided by self, entertainment courtesy of fellow plotholders - worth every penny!!

Hello, first post here so I'll mind my manners!

£12.50 per year, 5 poles, fantastic soil, shed by permission, greenhouse by permission and £10 surcharge, water sump just by the end of my plot.

No beasties, burning, rubbish collection (got to take burnable/monster weeds home) free parking on a Saturday three mins down a "home made" steep footpath to the site, but then the rest of the over-car'd town knows about the free parking too.

No access for manure deliveries due to the above and the narrow, parked up streets on the other side so have to be carried in bags/sacks - my muscle tone will improve (just wait till we get the shed delivered to the car park!).  No association either.

Inherited a vast bay tree  8), salsify, rhubarb and more.  Very pleased and into the second year, still chipping away at the weeds!

Bupster, hi!

Yes, we're hoping our chickens will make us millionaires!
Marvellous image  ;D

We're in the east of East Anglia, so no gold as far as I know but the contract specifies mineral rights, so if the hens ever do find any, it belongs to the landlord.
(Still, I could sneak a few chunks away by dead of night!)  ;)

Down in Taunton, Somerset we pay £15 for about 15m by 15m.  It has water and sheds but no concrete which means driving can be fun at this time of year.

Don't you just love this country - rods, perches, poles, feet, yards and metres all on one thread! ???

I wonder if anyone has done the sums including all the costs? How much does all that lovely produce really cost?  :o :o
Mind you I for one wouldn't do it if I weren't getting so much fun out of it. Try comparing with gym membership or personal trainer etc.

My plot costs just over £8 a year, it has a water trough 10ft away, your allowed chickens and rabbits (though I haven't) the plot is 50 feet by 25 feet ish, not sure how that compare to others?

Although I only had my plot since May last year, I feel I'm in credit.  ;D

This year I'm actually going to try and weight my veg and compare it to supermarket prices, just to see how much can be saved. Although I'm not worried about the money, you really cant beat the fresh veg!

Ours are £25 per 10 pole, not much security but not really needed. Mains fed (April - November) dip tanks, sheds allowed with permission, no livestock..... the site already has a good population of cats and wild rabbits! Dogs allowed under control of the owner.
Bonfires allowed when there is a Southerly or Westerly wind only, during Summertime wind conditions apply and must not be lit before dusk.
