Title: Greenwizard persuaded me.....
Post by: Plocket on December 28, 2005, 21:16:06
to share a few examples of my paintings with you. I'm not going to bother with my landscapes because I'm not satisfied with them and only started to paint them again relatively recently. All these flowers are growing in my garden, and I painted them this summer/autumn. I thought that as you are gardeners you might appreciate them.

Thank you! All of you! (I'm blushing but dead chuffed!!!) No I don't paint professionally Lottie but I try and paint something every week to keep my hand in - it's difficult finding time what with being a mum. Before the summer I hadn't painted for years but a friend persuaded me that I should start up again, and you see the result!

Absolutely stunning!  In this ramshackle old body of mine, there lay not one artistic bone, so I hold those who can paint, draw and create in great awe Plocket!  Your paintings are wonderous, beautiful.  You are a clever clever person with eyes that see more than others see.

Excellent pictures Plocket. When I saw them my first thought was like looking at the illustrations from a Victorian Plant Collectors journal. That's meant as a compliment they really are fantastic pictures. I draw but haven't tried flowers yet.

Thank you everybody!

2spot: I'm very flattered by your association with a collectors journal but I'm no where near that good! I have been brave enough to give some of my paintings to friends though occasionally, and there's a few in family homes.

Lorna: the clems by any chance?  ;) I think of the ones I've shown Fair Rosamund and the Kaffir Lily are my faves.

Ply me with booze again and I might pluck up the courage to post more paintings someday - perhaps of some of the gardens I've visited.

Hi Dan! No I haven't studied art. I got a place at art college and then decided not to go: my family weren't impressed!!! It's just a hobby now really. Are you going to share some paintings with us?

Hi Plocket, can't think of anything to say except to agree with everyone else that your paintings are beautiful - like Twospot, I thought they looked like illustrations from a plant journal.  I especially like the kaffir lily & the clem. primrose star.

yeah, like others, my reaction was WOW, what talent.

My mother started painting a few years ago, and unleashed a talent I never knew she had. She works in oils. Water colours, now, that's talent and patience too I imagine. Hard to stop the dribbles!

Well done. Lucky your relatives that have piccies in their homes.

Lovely paintings P ! Really brilliant.

I know where you're coming from about keeping your hand in. I went to art college  but haven't painted anything for years. I kind've feel all stiff and not able to move freely with a brush if you know what I mean.  I didn't paint flowers though. I painted various things but the most enjoyable paintings I did were of life models.

My mum has had MS since I was a wee bairn. She is 71 now, totally lost the use of her right hand side years ago. She has had to learn to use her left hand. She went away to respite care last year and did some watercolours for the first time ever.  She did a rose, an iris and some daffodils. They are so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. I thought "Right thats it I'm never going to paint again!"  ;D  I bought her a little travel paint set but she hasn't done any more paintings.  :(

Really lovely Plocket! I would love to be able to paint like that. Love watercolours and even enrolled in a painting course last september, but they look like cancelling it now  :'(

Well done to your mum, Heldi, for learning to do something different - a lot of people would just have given up.  My dad had TB when he was in his 20s & spent a couple of years in hospital (prior to which he had been a really active sportsman - must have been heartbreaking having to give everything up) - he learned to do watercolours and also embroidery & apparently got quite good at them - but he also hasn't done any since - I think they would remind him too much of being in hospital.

It's amazing what people can do when they put their minds to it isn't it? Heldi your mum's work must be so special to you, as well as to her. What an achievement.

And I was rather lazy where art college was concerned! Had an unconditional offer of a place but decided not to go. Family were not impressed!!! If you feel the urge to paint again you will - and I envy you the life drawing/painting - that's something I really should do a course on.

Juliet perhaps your father will think of something else to inspire him. These talents can lie dormant for a long time. Everyone has a talent though - it's a matter of finding it!

Oh Plocket you must do life drawing. If you see a class snatch up a place because it is great fun. I remember my trying to draw "those bits" and I never got it quite right. I looked at my classmate's attempt and she looked at mine and we both burst out laughing. You know what got us really stuck? We didn't know how to suggest hair without it looking like a Ronald McDonald wig...or my wig in my avatar. Hilarious! Seriously though it makes you see and observe the human body in a whole new way which then makes you look allsorts of things in a new light.

If I were Prime Minister, I would make Art compulsory on Friday afternoons for everyone. Imagine all those Chief Executives doing a bit of colouring in and some potato prints!

What really made me want to do life drawing was my aunt a few years ago - she had a model who was pierced in the most intimate places! I was very intreagued!!!!!

Pklocket, I thought I had congratulated you on your beaut. paintings but I haven't, apologies, but they are beautiful and hope you carry on with this wonderful talent you have.

I too like painting and was good at it at school and into my 20s.  You can lose yourself in drawing and painting cant' you.  The time just passes by.   Someday I will take it up again and would like to go back to classes.

Anyways you carry on and do the stuff, its really good work, wonderful.
