What does your car say about your personality, is this enough proof Lottie, that I really am mad!!

Haha your car is mad Dibber I love it!

I haven't passed my test...and probs never will... cos I aint got the will. But if money was no problem and I had passed my test I'd have a Dodge Viper. If I could drive now, I would sell our Nissan Tarrano and have a Beetle and yes I would have a flower in the vase.

Ours is a sensible family based diesel engine Ford Mondeo estate.  Big enough to pack all of our clobber in, big enough for 2.5 children, mum, pets, etc, and cheap-ish to run.

Our non sensible is a way to fast Yamaha Thundercat motorbike (which I am hoping my darling will upgrade after Christmas to something equally as fast and roaring!)  ;D

We sold our car last spring and bought a big bench instead to put on the street outside our house, where the car used to be. I reckon we're £30 a week up, all our neighbours come and sit outside with us (when it's not raining) and I don't worry about our kids being in a car smash.

Also the bench seats 8 in comfort - the old car only managed 5 in agony! Although I must concede 0-60 mph the bench is rubbish!!

Seriously, I despise cars and I've found out that buses and trains are actually pretty good these days...

I did have the most beautiful Triumph Thunderbird though, in another life, loved it to bits, few weeks later, fell pregnant with number 4.......sigh! But your car is certainly individual, just like you, matey!!  ;D

Mine is a boring Chrysler Neon (auto) . Previously we had a Trooper (had to have a vehicle that enabled Charlie to get in to)  I should have kept it. After seeing yours Dibber methinks I might get son John to liven mine up with some graphics..Well why not? He thinks his Mum is mad already ;D :o

Dibberxxx - you seem to have bandwidthed yourself! I am much intrigued to see the car!

(Polo diesel, nice and economical and parks in tiny spaces that the Chelsea tractors won't fit in, yet is big enough for all my gardening clobber and a tall hubby!!!!)

Without wishing to embark on another wave of 'smuggery', I can only say that we've been there! But dibber asked for it??

1. RAF pay? No car till I was 30!! - 1950. Before that, cycled 12 miles each way to work each day for 2 years. Try that!! In uniform!!
2. Oh, sorry - a Wolseley Hornet 1941 ( £37) for a month or so. Unmarried then.
3. Briefly, a Marendaz Special - 1950 - £100 - now worth £3500. Paid £5 to have it scrapped.
4. Then, bless Aunt Lydia - Rover 1955 - Jaguar 1957 - Rover 1960 - Mini Traveller after crashing that! - + Mk1 Landrover - £150 - never been forgiven for binning that! 6 teenagers to Greece & back - and, since retirement - 30 years with? - see below. Sorry about loyalty, but "aircraft association?" See pic. Surprised??
5. " Cheerful" - but YES - hopefully calms. But green plates, & a (mature) daughter, & you are overtaken in the local High Street!!!
6. No car? We have several times pointed people that way - taxis if you need them - cheaper in the long run. But, even though we only do 2500 miles a year, so much of it is 5-up, or sheets of glass etc.

My most favourite car was my 3rd.  At 20 I took out my first loan and bought a jet black Ford Escort XR3i.  God I loved that car!  Blinging before my time!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Ah Wardy, memories of the cars we have had. In the 70's and 80's we had two Jensen Intercepters (sp?) Daimler , Jaguar, Rolls Royce Shadow. (cost over £200 to have that one cleaned and leather work treated ). Although I loved the Jensen it was lethal in the snow. Was a real trouble to get Charlie to spend money on himself but he did like his cars. Oh and also an old Landrover to pull the horse box.

Dibber. Haven't seen John yet, probably will tomorrow. I am just wondering what he will say, as I said he already thinks I am a bit mad.

Wardy. Yes it was a nice car, not very good ride round town but once you got on the open road  she certainly could go. Not a family car, not much room in the back for kids. Soon solved that problem just didn't take the kids out LOL. ;D

I only had fast bikes before I got married, cars were for old men ;) I've had quite a few since though, best was a Rover 600, smoother than a Roller, then I blew it up. Nowadays I have a Citroen C3 ( which my wife uses for work) and a Berlingo van, very useful for keeping rotavators etc. in the back 8) Hopefully I'll be back on 2 wheels next summer ;D

Well actually I didn't ask him just told him what I was thinking of doing. He said  I will do it for you. Had better not mention car until after he has done jobs for me!!!!

I used to have a Fiat 126 that was called gio.  It was 650cc as I remember (OHs motorbike was more powerful) and I once got overtaken by a milkfloat.  :o  Best fun ever and I drove to York in it, four up, which was about 350 miles away and used about £2 worth of petrol.  Why didn't I keep it ?

Black Zaphira, practical for kids, tools and dog but would love an old VW Beetle (deffo not the new posh ones) in my other life or one of those old mini van type things with the wooden doors at the back, do you know what I mean?

OH always used to dream of a cruisin in a black capri, but in reality he was driving a bright yellow metro!

Delilah. Had one of those mini van types. Had it for putting pigeons in (in baskets ;D) when we took them training. That was about 1980/1984 .

UC In the words of Meldrew "I don't believe it!" I suppose the fact that we had a garage and haulage business it was drummed in to me  Check oil, water and tyre pressures regularly!!!! Now my grandson is a qualified mechanic he does all the necessary. He recently put on a new cambelt for me (saved me a fortune.)

Jaggy. That is disgusting. No wonder some garages get a bad name, grandson now he is self employed had made up his mind to be fair. He cannot carry out actual MOT's but he prepares vehicles. He then gives customer list of things that need doing and gives them a QUOTE (not an estimate). That way the customer knows what they have got to pay.

Our 'boring' vehicle is an N reg 1.2 Metro, which is easy to park, and gets us from a to b. Our fun vehicle is an N reg BMW 1200cc touring motorbike which is worth 6 times what the car is worth  ;D The car and the motorbike have the same size engine  ::)

Very interesting finding out what people drive!

I have a K reg Toyota Celica. It looked beautiful when I first got it. Unfortunately a boy racer couldn't see out of his blacked out windows and couldn't hear my horn blaring as he had his music so loud - and he subsequently reversed into the front of my car! I couldn't get out of his way as I had people behind my car. Anyway he drove off after realising what he'd done! I expect he didn't have insurance etc. I gave the police his reg, but they couldn't trace it so I expect it was fake! As it is I now have a really scruffy looking bumper with bits falling off!

Before that I had a Eunos Roadster. Wow I loved that car :-*! But a 2 seater wasn't practical and had to go after 3 years of enjoying it! :'(

My first car was an E reg Nissan Micra. Probably the most practical of the lot. I actually wish I still had it as it was such a good little runner - very economical. I think I would have painted it with flowers if I'd had the chance! :D

Emma Lou. How I envy you WOW  2 seater. I have always wanted a sports car, husband was going to buy me one at an auction years ago but he always had a figure set in his mind and he wouldn't budge, so no car!!!! I still hanker after one but son reckons I am too old now to get in one ???

Oh Lorna! Think you could be 106 (which I know you're not, before you slap...!!) and if you want a Sports car and can afford it, and have all your faculties, why on earth not? Am perplexed ???, but that is not an unusual occurence......

You're never too old! I intend to get another one when the kids have grown up and left home (long wait I know!).

MX5's/Eunos Roadsters are so cheap these days so keep your eye out for one. They are so lovely to drive and look cool (even though most blokes I spoke to called them 'hairdresser cars')! I never had any problems with mine so it was really cheap to run.

I found the imported Eunos Roadsters had better additions. Mine had alloy low profile wheels, tan leather interior, lowered suspension, racing Green colour and a black vinyl roof. I really miss it! :'(

Well who knows ;D Problem I really do have is that I have a spoilt animal (Elsa) that goes everwhere with me. When I bought the Neon I thought I could just have her on the back seat (with dog harness) but she fly's at the windows every time people come near the car so I have her dog cage on the back seat, otherwise she would ruin the side panels of the car. Never had a crazy dog like her but can't be helped so I am stuck with her.(she's lovely really).   I can still dream though!!!! Lorna.
