Post by: adam04 on November 01, 2005, 22:49:00
the soil on my lottie needs sterilising and apparatly i can buy something to dig in to the ground that will sterilise the soil.  Does anybody know the name of this and even better where i can get it from??

Sulphuric acid is pretty effective stuff   *grinz*

Seriously though , off the top of my head, I would think that any kind of Guano pellets, chickenshit ? would be fairly acidic  ... dunno, just firing off the top of my one working brain cell.     {:¬)#

I am interested to know why you need to sterilize as many now dont bother, indeed I have never bothered.

Is it because you have somehting like club root or onion white rot?

In the past I have heard of people use Jeys fluid or Armatillox but I believe these are not permitted to use on the soil any more.

Armatillox is still available for use in the soil.

Would over dosing with highly acidic manures get rid of any of the long term soil problems like white rot and club root?  Big problems such as these would be the only thing that would persuade me down an inorganic route and only then it they were a one off and I could allow the soil to lie fallow for a while.  Any organic solutions would be very welcome.
