Title: Pruning tomatoes
Post by: Annadl on September 15, 2005, 13:16:37
It's recommended to prune tomato plants to 2 main leader stems.
When is it the best time to do this?
How tall should they be first?

Thanks
Anna :)

once you have four or five sets of flowers or fruits then you pinch out the top.
The side shoots need pinching out too, but this of course should of been done months ago as now you should be trying to ripen the toms left on your plant ,by stripping the plant of its leaves so you have the stem and tomatoes left.

Hi Gayle

I am in West Australia so our seasons are out of sync.

Maybe I should sign off as AnnaOutOfSync so that people realise this.

My tomatoes are starting now.

Thanks

Hi Anna Down under and back to front!! That will teach us to make assumptions!

If you still have the pack of seeds or know the variety, key in the name on your internet and see if you get any info up. There are so many types, bush, semi-bush cordon etc. Difficult to give advice unless you know.

Good luck and happy growing.
