Title: What do you do all winter?
Post by: Tenuse on November 27, 2003, 19:25:50
Well, it must be cold, I have noticed that there are not many postings on the edible plants board and loads and loads in the Shed where it's a bit warmer!

What kinds of things do you established lottie holders do over the winter, to get ready for the Spring?

Gain weight, press my nose against the window, watch the rain and sigh a lot! ;D
I am still working on my lottie, digging out brambles and nettles, I keep it covered with a plastic sheet so it is still workable.
The rest of the days my house actually gets cleaned, 6 months worth of dusting and laundry to catch up on! (just kidding!) and the best bit.......catalogues to browse through, with a lovely cuppa, watching mother nature doing her worst outside :) Dottie P.

Still get up to the lottie when the sun is shining and the kids are tucked up at school.  But I move into my garden more this time of year as I can nip out between showers, or get down to the greenhouse, my home from home, and potter.  It is amazing how many hours I can fill just pottering around.  Then of course there are all the pre-christmas jobs, school plays, chrissy parties, shopping, visiting, shopping, drinking, eating, drinking, drinking some more.....then a few weeks to get over the hangover, shed the Christmas pounds, and look forward to planting, sowing, digging and weeding!

Well i mainly just sit around eating anything in sight, which makes me get as fat as Santa  ;D .
On Boxing day set off the onion seeds at the lottie (usually wearing my awful crimbo sweater and dodgy tie)  :-/ .
Drink the whiskey till i collapse in a heap at the bottom of the stairs  :-X .
But most of all enjoy the time off work  ;D ;D ;D.

We still have Jerusalem Artichokes to dig up - that'll keep us busy till February.  Then there's the annual bramble cut back.

There's a bunch of us who make a point of keeping going through the winter - even if all we do is gossip!

I've also just bought stuff for the new fruit garden - Red and White currants and some Autumn Bliss Raspberries.  They'll be going in soon.

We always spend Christmas Day afternoon over the allotment.  Now we have a little gas ring, I can even cook up a little lunch over there!  Anything to escape the lousy TV!
