Title: Farncombe allotments at risk
Post by: westsussexlottie on June 22, 2005, 19:22:00
Farncombe near Godalming - apparently a public meeting tomorrow as allotments are overgrown so going to be developed.
Sadly I can't make it.
Another lot of allotments bites the dust...  >:(

I am stomping mad about this - it seems all very hush hush...
I am a newbie BTW so apologies for no intro...

It seems that wherever an allotment lies fallow a few years - a developer follows...
This is really sad as Farncombe is pretty built up anyway and there are not many allotments in the area.

Has anyone tried getting people interested in taking a plot.  I know we haven't been successful in saving our lotties, not that we have given up yet but it's surprising how many folk out there actually want a lottie, they just need a bit of a push.

It has been featured in the local papers but I don't live near enough to know more. Just seems such a shame.

I agree and even more so because I bet if they advertised them they'd be surprised by the response.  Here we have 4 council sites, two of which have waiting lists but one site had vacant plots.  Someone finally thought it would be a good idea to put a piece in the town news letter and before they knew it all the plots had gone.
