Title: Escargo?
Post by: aquilegia on January 27, 2004, 11:15:16
Please excuse my spelling - I was rubbish at French at school.

What's the difference between normal garden snails and the French delicacy? Or are they the same type?

I only ask as I dreamt last night that I rounded up the snails in my garden, cooked and ate them.  :P (They didn't taste very nice and I'm a veggie anyway!)

apparently there isn't a difference. I saw the 'Cook on the Wild Side' series (Hugh Fearnley-Whatever) and this guy went collecting normal garden snails, fed them on apples or carrots for 2-3 days to clear them of any impurities and eats them! He said any snail in this country is edible.

Yes ! the Greeks go round the edges of the fields for them regularly I have sat and watched them in quite a few of the Islands.I can almost see them now as I'm sat on my balcony with the hot sun beating down .Well Aquilegia did mention dreaming.

- a local delicacy in the Cotswolds! But try to find enough for a meal in a hurry?

Tasteless? - LOTS of garlic and butter? Or just look up 'cooking snails' on the web for ideas?

Oh, just add -t or -ts?= Tim
