Title: Nice quiet evening for me
Post by: ACE on December 31, 2019, 11:47:03
No baby sitting, no noisy pub and no hangover. I have done my bit on New Years Eve over the years. I was never at home when I had the ceilidh band,  always working. I'm still a bit wasted later in the day with this malady I have so just a quiet evening, perhaps a drop o' the cratur to see the new year in.

Quiet here, not stayed up for several years now. Used to enjoy the pub and folk night session but that pub closed several years ago.
Try to get to sleep before the fireworks start up!

It is decades since I went to a pub or party for NY.  Other than a few close friends who may be present, you have to kiss an awful lot of toads when the gongs go.

Have been known to go to a dinner dance with proper ballroom dancing but we stopped when we found ourselves driving home sober but happy at 2 and 3am while all around us weaved.  Not safe.

These days we have a good dinner at home and watch DVDs as NY TV is always crap and OH doesn't do Jools Holland and co.   At midnight we have a glass of fizz and cuddle our dogs and cats cos of all the noisy fireworks.

I hope everyone enjoys seeing in the new year in whatever form it takes.

Same here!

As I recall I have been in bed before  midnight the last couple of years which I guess is a bit unusual for a Scotsman!

I put this down partially to Jools & co the programme is usually rubbish

Years ago I used to quite enjoy the midnight shenanigans, but then again I might be biased as then it often had a bit of a Scottish slant to it.

Don't know if it is my imagination but since the Scottish referendum this all seems to have changed

So let me take the opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year in the typical Scottish way:

We do stay up, turn the lights down and watch the fireworks on the box, then go for our traditional New Year walk, how short or long depends on the weather.  Should be ok tonight.

This custom started at the Millennium when friends 3 miles away invited us to their party.  Was not worth somebody having to stay sober to drive on that occasion, so we walked there and back home again too.  And this walk into the brand new year has become a bit of a tradition since then.

I wish all a happy evening followed by sound sleep and a wake up to a really good new decade for all of us.

Happy new year everybody. I went to be early leaving her to watch potty mouth Millican. Rude awakening at midnight when the local neighbourhood decided to re-enact the battle of the Somme.

Happy New Year everyone...
We bring the party to us... a tradition we started when the boys were little... the eldest is 30 this time. Went out onto the allotments  to do fireworks and like Ace said it was a bit like the reenactment of the Somme.. the site is something of a natural ampitheatre so we get to see loads of everyone else's for free as well. Was about 3 before we called it a night. Hope your health continues to improve Ace.

Laid up with yet another virus so it was a night watching films with a few hits of Laphroaig to nurse the head.
I was supposed to go and see some old friends from far and wide down in Amesbury but to sick to drive for 2 hours..

After a pantomime, Peter Pan, with children and grandchildren, then taken out for lunch, we were both bushed when we got home at 6pm. Managed to make it through to the fireworks on TV, just, then bed ten past midnight!

Happy New Year all, and a very healthy and prosperous 2020!

Lang may yer leeks grow!
