Moved into a bungalow and inherited this plant/tree. Does anyone know what it is? Should I keep or get rid?

It looks to me like a cornus as the stalks/bark look reddish.  There are several species so you may have more of an idea as to which one it is when it produces flowers and then berries.  I have several in my garden with different colour stalks and bark.  They are shrubs, grow to a metre or so tall and give colour all year round.
