All my potatoes are growing in black builders type buckets from Wilkinsons. Drainage holes drilled in the bottom and multi purpose compost used, one seed tuber per bucket  although I have tried a few buckets with three tubers and there are 30 buckets. More than enough for me as I live by myself.
Swift grown in GH to get some early spuds, rest are outside - Charlotte, Lady Christal, Kestrel, Nadine, Roseval, Rocket and one other ? (I forgot to label the paper bag).

First early - pentland javelin
Second early - charlotte
Main crop - Maris Pier

I had a lot of damage to my main crop of cara to wireworm last year.  The spuds were fantastic size, just the problem with the holes in them.

Of course they are French varieties so might not mean much:
1st early Amandine
2nd earlies Bernadette (meant to be very blight resistant...)
maincrop Caesar which is meant to give good sized potatoes for baking, we'll see if that comes true, the French don't go in for baking potatoes so I am trying that one to see.
I planted the maincrop this week. And the earlies about a month ago and the tips are just coming through the soil now.

On a potato comparison mission this year but only have a smallish allotment and have run out of beds to plant them all, so will have a least 6 bags as well as the bed - worried this won't provide a fair test.

First Early
Lady Christl - waxy
Winston - Earliest baker
Vales Emerald - Maris Peer/Charlotte for baby salad pots
Second Early
Anya (Pink Fir cross) - nutty salad, but chips/roasts well
Charlotte - highyield waxy salad
Vivaldi - allegedly low carb
Early Main
Belle de Fontenay (salad) (toss up vs Royal Kidney)
Mayan Gold -  (no good for boiling)
Salad Blue - (high dry matter so actually good for roasting)
Late Main
Rooster -
Pink Fir
Verity (replacement for Pomeroy - no seed pots this year)

Pentland Javelin, Nadineand Desiree. Lets hope we all have a better year this year. I didn't do very well last year with anything other than earlies cos of the wet weather.

Mimi in Tubs, 3kg of Desiree.., only 9kg still to go ... 6kg of Picasso and 3kg of King Edwards... she's not built like a navy but don't pick a fight with her when she has the Chillington Hoe or Trenching Spade in her hands....

I've finally given up with King Eds after about 80% slug damage last year. Tried some Majestic which did brilliantly so I've got some more. Other maincrop is PFA.
First earlies are Lady Chrystl which do well for me, and an impulse buy from Poundland of Arran Pilot, which are already up, in buckets.
Second earlies, British Queen, new to me.

Geoff.

I've not grown any of these before except Arran Victory - which makes the best mash (in my humble opinion!)

This year, we have:
 Lady Christl,
 International Kidney
 Kestral
Always like to try some new ones every year, but for the past few years have grown International Kidney, because they have such a nice flavour.

I always grow Kondor as my main crop potato. I don't seem to see it mentioned very much on here ..It is  a heavy cropper ,has resistancy to blight, keeps well and a versatile cooker ...Is there any one else growing it this year?
Others I have in are Rockets and Kestrel ..

extra early 'rocket' in coldframe
'rocket' outdoor just through, planted 31 march
'charlotte'  planted 20 april
don't grow maincrop due to high incidence of blight, (and a friend is a spud farmer) leaves more room for other crops

I am planting Pink Fir Apples - only because they are lovely potatoes and keep through the winter and still cook (taste and texture) as new potatoes!  Only problem is slugs!  This year I am trying a combination of shredded paper, seaweed, and coffee grinds in the trench with the potatoes.  You never know it may work!

Normally I buy a sack of "normal" potatoes - as I can't justify the space for something so inexpensive!

Red duke of york and Vales Emerald, followed by King Edward and Pink Fir Apple. PFA seemed to be more blight resistant last year than the rest. Also my favourite if the KE get slugged.

Interesting to read what everyone is doing. I've got 6kg of Rocket going and they are just through this last week and looking well. I've got 6kg of Nadine to go in but have struggled for time. Here's one for you all and I'd like to hear opinions, I got some Jersey Royals last year and thought I'd grow them for Xmas, put them in buckets in greenhouse in late September, disastrous, never saw a thing.....yet now they have lovely growth, pulled one two days ago, loads of lovely little tubers, gonna leave em a little longer andshould be spot on.

Mine should finally be with me in a week or so; I'm not sure whether DT Brown's cocked up the order or whether it went astray in the post. Still, with the cold spring, my inevitable accidentals are only just showing through, so they're only missing a matter of three weeks or so out of the season.

If you are pushed for space: although second earlies are recommended for container growing,  last year I grew PFA in an inside out compost bag (so the black is on the outside for warmth).

Not a bad crop and they kept well - finished the last in March.  But, unlike spuds in beds, they need regular watering and you should add a liquid feed to the water every few weeks (or just a little each time you water) - so not low maintenance.
