Title: You just know
Post by: gwynleg on July 10, 2010, 15:11:56
...who is going to stay and who isnt. I have a new neighbour up the lotties. I havent actually seen them but have seen the evidence of them trying to burn off the weeds on the allotment. That was 3/4 weeks ago and havent seen anyone (or any evidence of digging etc) since.

I was so hoping someone might come and stick at it, but my money wouldnt be on that.

Hope we are wrong. Next door to daughters plot put down white plastic covers, came to see if the weeds were dying, which they weren't. They were actually growing. Four weeks ago they sprayed. The weeds are now growing again. In that time OH has double dug, trenched & manured at 1/3 of the plot & we've got things planted. That is the only plot not being worked. They don't know what they are missing ::). We have met the most lovely people up there.

Where are you in London? I help my daughter with her allotment in Greenwich. We can only go there once a week, if that, and it is very difficult keeping it watered and planted, but we have put a lot of compost and manure into it and are not doing too badly.

I can usually only go once a week. I assumed everyone else was going much more often. But my neighbour, who has a very nice allotment recently said he also only goes once at the weekend. So we're not alone, artichoke!

It just goes to show how little you have to go, for it to end up in the sorry state of so many plots we moan about!

Afraid that Morgan54 sounds like a web-bot in disguise. I bet there was a link to Viagra in there somewhere...
Sorry If I am wrong...

Now you mention it - the post doesnt supply any information. It doesn't say ' i have a lotty' or anything like that. It is in fact a general purpose text that could be posted on any forum anywhere.

I've seen very similar posts, in similar bad English, on an ancient coin forum I help moderate. They're all spam, though I don't quite see the point with no link to anything.

I go once a week too, very occassionally twice.  I have a lovely book called 'the half hour allotment which says if you're clever you should be able to manage the plot in half an hour on weekdays with weekends off - so I figure sunday plodding with a picnic should do fine (though my heart and head wants to be up there every night!)

<< I help my daughter with her allotment in Greenwich. We can only go there once a week, if that, and it is very difficult keeping it watered and planted, but we have put a lot of compost and manure into it and are not doing too badly. >>

Sorry, I should also mention it is a less than half plot. I strim it for her from time to time and I have planted 3 fruit trees, lots of raspberries and some blackcurrants and gooseberries which don't need constant attention, plus 10 asparagus crowns. Lots of strawberries, now just about over.

Apart from that I bring her seedlings of sweetcorn, courgettes, beans, peas, spinach - so she has a little of everything but not remotely enough for her family. She has just had her third baby and will soon be going back to full time London doctoring; so escaping at the weekend to her plot is very valuable for her.

Being such a small plot, we have been able to fill it with manure and compost, and it is galling that many of the seedlings I bring her grow on faster than my own, because I can't give my three half plots the same tlc....even though I vist them more than once a week.
