Title: What keeps well?
Post by: Squash63 on February 24, 2009, 13:37:50
What varieties of squash do people grow which are good 'keepers'?

I still have a few butternuts left and they are in perfect condition.

I even have a 'Tromba d'Albegna' from 2007 which is decorating my porch. Mind you, it's only lasted because I don't like the taste as much as the butternuts!

Hi Squash 63,

I still have 2 Crown Prince and about 10 Winter Festival all still looking very happy and they are both a lovely flavour.

It will be interesting to see what other squashes keep so well as I always keep mine until now when there is not so much other veg in the garden.

Have 1 Crown Prince, 1 Buttercup, 1 triamble, 1 potimarron - which remain good. But also a couple of sucrine de berry - but don't think these will last much longer and the taste doesn't stay as sweet with storage - better eaten in the first two months post harvest.
