Title: Spanish roulette
Post by: Pescador on August 16, 2013, 11:44:09
Should be able to harvest the first of my "Padron" peppers this weekend, so they'll be lightly fried with a little olive oil, sprinkled with sea salt and taken down to the local for the first game of Spanish Roulette of the season. Always very popular!!
"Heatwave" also fruiting well, just waiting for them to ripen

This years harvest (2014) looks like being nearly 2 weeks earlier than last year, so if anyone fancies a game of Spanish Roulette, the first game will be held on August 3rd at The Steamboat Inn, Trent Lock, Sawley!!

They seem to have extra heat in them this year. Normally there should be one hot one in every ten.
This year I think one in ten is mild!!

Sounds like a good year for them  :happy7:

Blimey, don't think I fancy those chances  :blob8:

How often do you have a game of 'Spanish Roulette', any rules?

We play as often as the crop allows. This year I'm growing about 10 Padron plants which thoroughly enjoyed the weather until about 10 days ago.
These would normally give me about 35 peppers a week, last year from mid-Aug into October. This year things are slowing down already so I'll have to see how it goes!
As for The Rules of Play.... there aren't  any really.
Fry the peppers, sprinkle with sea salt, put on bar, stand back and watch. Obviously need to do a bit of egging on, try one yourself (and don't wince) to get it going, then you get them trying to out-do each other!!!
All the time you're mentioning that this is sponsored by Pauls Preserves that are on sale at the bar.
Great fun and eagerly looked forward to
