Title: First ripe chilli
Post by: Squash64 on July 13, 2012, 12:39:23
This is the one my Pakistani neighbour gave me, so no name for it.

My husband will eat it today, I'll let you know the verdict.

It's almost an inch and a half long and an inch wide.

Good size..just tad shorter than jalapeno's...and now we wait the for the scorch factor.. ;D Is hubby going to just bite into it or you having to cook with it?
I had some first ripe chillies from your 'Bangladeshi small' plant..I waited ages for the chillies to turn from white to red and now that it has started, one or two is starting to ripen almost every day.. ;D
So small plant, with so many small chillies but each of them packed with such amount of chilli flavour and nice heat...brilliant windowsill plant.

My husband is eating it at the moment.  He eats chilli raw every day, with every meal (except breakfast  :))

He says it is medium hot and has a pleasant burning sensation (how anything which burns can be pleasant escapes me)  He says it doesn't have a very strong flavour.  I don't know if this would be different if it was cooked?

I'm glad you like them and yes, it really is a nice plant for a windowsill.  My plant survived the winter but then got massively attacked by aphids and I had to get rid of it.  Would you mind saving a few seeds for me please?

I grew just under a dozen different chillies this Spring and the earliest was Fresno, earlier than something sold as Early jalapeno. The Hungarian hot wax are plumping out fairly early too. The slowest seem to be something called Soave which are mild Hananero types. They haven't fruited yet so I can't vouch for their heat or lack of it.
