Title: Calabrese sideshoots.
Post by: carolinej on June 18, 2007, 07:20:14
I have cut the main heads off my calabrese (and very nice they were too :P)

The side shoots are 2 - 3 inches in diameter. How big will they grow? I dont want to risk them flowering, but would like them to be a bit bigger befor I pick them really.

Thanks

Interesting - what variety?

Usually, the sideshoots are more like PSB than headed Broccoli. Certainly nowhere near the size of the top one.

Caroline ,mine are about the same, they get a fairly decent size, nothing like the first one but my Greenbelt goes to 4 inches sideshoots , and it keeps on coming again with smaller shoots  which surprised me the first time I grew it. XX Jeannine

I think the variety is Olympic F1. It will be nice to get little heads, as they will look nice on the plate as an individual portion. I bet they woukd charge a fortune in the shops for special 'mini' ones!
