-
Brilliant scarcrows. Very well turned out, their better dress than me!!! ;D ;D ;D
-
Thanks everyone for your lovely comments on my scarecrows. I'm becoming a bit obsessive and want to make even more now.
If anyone is interested, the heads are made out of tights (the body part) with the nose pulled out and fastened tightly with string. The bodies are stuffed with old duvets. The easiest thing to use for the body is a boiler suit because it won't come apart in the middle. Two of them have those papery sort of boiler suits under their clothes and the other has a bib and braces thing.
I have to make them when my husband is out because he keeps complaining that some of his clothes are going missing. ;D
Our scarecrow competition is being judged this Friday.
-
they are brilliant, good luck for the competition ;D

I thought they were real from the back, :o what do you stuff them with Squash and how do you hold them together. ;D ;D ;D

I use an old duvets, cut into strips about 20" wide. One strip is rolled and goes in one sleeve, across the body and down the other sleeve. I put a coathanger across the shoulder part. Another large piece of duvet folded into a thick rectangle for the body and two rolled pieces for the legs.
The easiest thing to make the body out of is a boiler suit because it doesn't come apart in the middle. I put another coathanger up the head and into the neck part. Once I've stuffed the boiler suit I put it on the bed and dress it. (this part can be either hilarious or creepy depending on your sense of humour.)
If you want to do a standing one, it can be hung up by the coathanger which is across the shoulders but they sit quite easily without support.
Hope all this makes sense, it's easier to do it than to write about it. :)

I recognise that ramp!! :)

Like other thought they were real people (thought maybe gardeners having a tea break!!). Brilliant.

;D @ Postman Pat in girly wellies!
When you say Worzel Gummage, do you mean the traditional ones stuffed with straw? The nearest I got to one of those is this one a few years ago

the other one looks very hippy-ish ;D

Betty, these scarecrows are wonderful. Please keep posting pics - I've got a couple of old duvets and intend trying to make my own, using yours as inspiration!

Ray says when you've finished with 'peter kay/postman pat', can he have his clothes, they're better dresed than Ray ;D
I think the baby is just having a 'poo' ;D
-
Tracie made this earlier in the year, but I reckon it's too good to put down the allotment.[attachment=1]
can anyone guess what its component parts were? ;)
-
Just seen this Tony, Its brilliant but can't work out what it is made of :-\ :)

Probably the most scary one I've ever made.......
Outstanding! :D
I don't find the massive baby all that scary, the fact that the romper suit appears to be nearly adult size is more disturbing! ;) But, if you really want to freak me out, you'd need to construct a clown... (http://bestsmileys.com/scared/8.gif)
-
You should see the lifeboat crews in the giant babygrows that they wear under their kit - now that is scary ;D

Now that's scary! It is very well made, was it done with tights too?
-
Was the Evil baby on site yesterday... I didn't see him.. :-\
-
This is one my grandsons made in 2006. For those who don't recognise him, it's supposed to be Ronaldhino the Brazilian footballer.

He looks as though he's just crawled out of his grave!

the face is from a BRA !!, the mouth part is the body of a 'tiny tears' doll, the hair is made from several pairs of tights, the eyes were a couple of buttons.
-
i don't know about scaring the birds off but it worked on me i wouldn't like to bump into any of them when it's dark ;D ;D

I would never have guessed that!
How was the nose made?
