Many if the long standing members will remember and know Betty from Wallsall Road allotments in Birmingham.
This wonderful site where we met for A4A get togethers on several occasions is under threat from development for the Commonwealth Games. Similarly to what happened for the Olympics when an allotment site was destroyed for a two week event the same is threatened here.
Please can you sign this petition to help the council make the right decision and protect this site.
Wallsall road allotments has been featured on many television programmes including the One Show, has a mixed ethnicity and has raised thousands of pounds for charity with events and Open days.

This was what happened at the first A4A get together at these wonderful allotments.

It is just unthinkable that this important site will be lost to developers. Please sign the petition to preserve these allotments.

Tried to sign but unable to as site won't let me. Wonderful meetings and site really really thriving. Would be a great shame to lose it to developers who would love to get their greedy mits on it..
-
Barriedale Nick has tweeked the link so hopefully it works now.
-
I signed . It seems 'the powers that be ' are prepared to destroy decades of hard work and effort ( and enjoyment ) for 2 weeks of "Sport " ... disgusting
-
Signed. Allotments are so much more important for a local community that a sporting blip even if that does have a decent legacy which is doubtful.
The mental and physical well being generated by allotments plus the social cohesion and healthy grub are far more meaningful and hard to replace whereas a sports facility can be built on any old brown field site.

Signed I do hope this petition works and they manage to keep the allotments
-
Thanks for posting about this , I do hope this wonderful site and cats will be safe.

Petition says zero signed, displays wrong postcode for me which I can't alter and I am not sure it is letting me sign despite putting my details in.

When I first looked at the website it does say "zero signed" then it loads the numbers, didn't it do that for you?
-
Signed.

This is the url I get when I go and search on the Change.org site directly. It takes a moment to load the number of people who have signed already. If the other url does not work, maybe this one will. Failing that, we can go on the change.org website directly and put "Walsall Road" into their search, which is called "browse"

Still no joy..tried links and Change site. Will not allow me yo alter incorrect postcode
-
Done- that was a lovely day on a wonderful site and it would be such a loss if it was lost to the community.
-
To be destroyed and replaced by this... Insane
-
That would be a travesty indeed. Surely there are other sites for the Commonwealth Games.
For me the Walsall Road Allotments embodies the spirit of Allotmenting. I was so inspired by my visits. Just loved the range of people and the range of crops they grow. It shows how a diverse collection of people can come together and share a common purpose. This site is unique.

Great news - Betty will be so happy.

Common sense still prevails it would seem at least among some politicians!
