I swapped a butternut last year for one of these and had the same problem!  If you cut it into chunks, you'll lose the spaghetti.  Cut it in half lengthwise.  Then put the cut side down in a baking tray with a couple of inches of water and bake until you can push a skewer in or boil it on top of the cooker until tender.  Drain, cool a little and scrape the flesh of the squash with a fork and it comes off like spaghetti strands, then dress it however you prefer.

thanks, ceres, I might wait 'til we've got visitors and cook the whole thing  :)
Ray doesn't like spaghetti, and i quote "even if it does come from a squash "

I do what ceres does only with boiling water added, covered with cling-film and in the microwave
also try to cut through the stalk to give me something to hold it with when I take it out

I prick over with a fork, bake it in the oven at about 180c, 40 - 60 mins dependent on size. Let it cool slightly, halve lengthways, take out the seeds, fork out the flesh and serve with favourite meat or vegetable sauce  ;)

Quite likely this is too late for you......OH loves spaghetti squash - so I was pleased to find seeds for it this year, as I've never seen it in the stores here.

I cut them in half, scoop out the seeds and score the squash lengthways (keeping in form with the spaghetti strands).  I add about a teaspoon of water, a dob of butter and a sprinkling of brown sugar.  Wrap in saran wrap and pop in the microwave until you can poke a fork or a skewer through it easily.

Taken out of the microwave, use a fork from one end to the other to score out the 'spaghetti strands'.  I had four spaghetti squash plants this year, and they have produced wonderfully :)

thanks, canuck, I'll use that with the next one..we had mixed reactions, the kids liked it but my home made sauce wasn't sweet enough for them, I liked it and my daughter and sister..the men preferred their pork chops  ;D
