Crikey!  What a houseful.  And they are all beautiful.  Where do you live?  I take it you have a farm or something like that?  They all look very happy and look like they get on together.  Do you show many/any of the dogs?  Walkies must be interesting  ;D ;D ;D

How i wish we lived on a farm LOL  ;D We have a 3-bed terrace with a large garden (my horse is kept at a stables tho, not quite enough room for him!).
I do show a few of the dogs and have 1 qualified for Crufts 2009 (Teddy), i spend most weekends at dog shows. I am currently showing 3 dogs as it's very expensive (not to mention my food bills  ;)). I can manage 6 at a time on walks (exc the 2 Akita's) and we get many admirers which means it takes twice as long to take them out but they all love the extra attention  ;D
I wouldn't be without them for the world, they are the love of my life!

Routine works wonders though.

What a great family of animals, we have just one Flatcoated Retriever (lost our other a year ago) absolutely mad and quite enough for us to handle now. Also have an elderly cat.  Love all the dogs, but what a beauty Archie is. We used to show but found that is very much a bit of the 'old pals' act. Having said that, we did have some success.  Like the long haired Chinese Crested, not seen them before.

Fantastic!  I would love more dogs but two Border terriers (plus my daughter's Sheltie who comes for 'doggy day-care') is all I have room for.

Do your Akitas get on well with the other dogs?  I am always a bit wary of the one we sometimes see in our local park but maybe they have an undeserved reputation?

Akita's are what thier owners make them, like most dogs/breeds. However they are very powerful and aloof and have a fight instinct like the Staffy's so unless i know one very well i would advise you to keep your distance for your dogs safety. They very rarely give warning (such as growling) and will suddenly attack. Even in play they like to roll with thier head and flatten other dogs so i keep my Akita's seperately to my small dogs just because of the size/weight difference. They sometimes play with my old Staffy as he likes to play rough and is solid enough to join in wrestling matches with them.
They are all 'getting on' now, the staff is 11 and the Akita's 10 & 7 but they can still play pretty rough  ;)
The Akita has exceptionally powerful jaws and can easily crush bones with a bite so training and socialisation are very important early on. They also attack by biting the skull of the opponent rather than grabbing skin and inflicting injuries and with the power of thier jaws a fight is very serious.

They are super dogs in the right hands, but very dangerous if not bred/raised correctly so i would be cautious about approaching any Akita i hadn't known from a puppy (or allowing my dogs to meet one we didn't know well).

Thank you for explaining about Akitas, it's good to hear from someone who actually owns and understands them.  I do agree with you about dogs being what their owners make them and in the wrong hands big powerful dogs can be dangerous.  My previous dog was a German Shepherd and we made sure that she was very well socialised with both people and other dogs.  She was thirteen when she died and we never had a problem with agressive behaviour with her.
