At our local M&S store they are selling Emperor Carrots. They are long and thin and quite flavourful. Anyone heard of them and know where I could get the seed?

The Americans have a carrot called imperator which sounds like the carrot you describe. The name may have changed in translation for UK tastes.

Agree with Obelixx. You can buy the seeds in the USA and you can save at least a dozen or 15 of the bought carrots to replant and grow your own seeds. But they won't succeed in clay soil. In a very sandy coastal plot they could work, but not in clay. :wave:

I can't believe US consumers are more comfortable with Latin than - well, just about anybody... What a massive insult from M&S (or rather their moronic marketing).
Anyway if there really are some informed consumers in the US I'm sure Trump will soon put a stop to it - an orange triangle on their prison camp uniforms maybe?

Thanks for your replies. Looks like they are using a generic name "Emperor" for one of the "Imperator" group of carrots. Could actually be any variety in that group.
Seems to be 5 or 6 groups of carrots mainly classified by length - Nantes, Chantenay & Imperator are the main ones we see in the shops. So they could actually be any variety. They should really be more specific as they are now with potatoes.

4 weeks and not one "bite"! Perhaps I am alone.

So I bought some carrots thought I would plant them and keep the seed. Left them in fridge and OH ate them !!!
