We are allowed exercise. Does a trip to the plot count?

Going to be awkward if you are driving there, I can cycle or walk and we have already worked out a plan. Mine is private but I bet some of the council owned ones will send out a note 'In the interests of safety bla, bla, bla and will padlock your site.

Probably. It is at least two of the permitted activities - exercise and 'essential shopping' i.e. veg supply, probably a third in there if you could argue it is also 'essential travel'. Some people have allotments that have livestock that need care. I have some faith the police would enforce this with a bit of common sense. But after the population took the absolute piss over the weekend I'm not so sure what to think. Lovely weather for the next few days - people are probably going to continue to pioneer stupidity. Keep well  :wave:

That was on my mind when I heard Boris last night. My allotment is 5 minute drive or half an hour walk away from my home. I have loads of stuff in the greenhouse at home which will not be ready to take to the allotment for a month or so but there is lots to do as I was hoping to put my onion net up tomorrow and gets the early potatoes in. I would look at it like the allotment gives me badly needed exercise and I am feeding my family at the same time. Fortunately last weekend I called at the allotment shop and bought all the compost and fertiliser that I needed for the season and the previous weekend my farmer friend delivered me the biggest load of manure that I have ever seen

I’ve just had a look at Sean James Cameron’s  (Horticultural Channel) twitter thingy and he does seem to have some up to date advice including defra etc.

Good news Gove has just said allotments count as exercise as long as distance is kept

Mr Gove has yes to going to the allotment but no to golf!

It seems OK to:
Continue as normal.
Council allotments and parks should be open.
No socialising, no groups above 2.
Keep min 2 metres apart.
Gather food for the return journey(as purpose, not a picnic!)
If anybody stops you, scream!

If necessary, take a cabbage or some rhubarb with you to show on your way home!

(Bananas or pineapples might be seen as taking the proverbial!)
