2 of my onions have producd flower heads. does this mean something has gone wrong and the rest will too or should i expect 2 out of 120 ish onions to bolt?
thanks in advance
-
Presumably autumn sown - just take the heads off. The rest may be OK. No telling why. = Tim

A few of my autumn onions have flowered as well, just like Tim said I have pinched out the flowers and am hoping they will continue to grow - I haven't a clue as to why they have flowered.

Not from experience, but Mr. Flowerdue says that they should be ok to eat, but won't store as well, so use them first.

thank you all!
since its only a couple i'm going to let them flower to see what they look like!
-
Onion flowers are rather pretty - have an ornamental allium in the border with purple flowers ;D
-
As said - any onion that has a flower stem will not store. = Tim

but i'm sure the bees will like it.....
i have planted about 120 so i think a loss of 2 isn't too bad, the rest are monsters - i hae no idea what variety - i think perpetual allotment variety that is grown for size! one a week will do us!
