Title: Am I doing right

I am thinking of starting some onion sets of in 3" pots in a cold greenhouse to give them a start.  What I want to know is , as anyone tryed doing this and am I doing right in trying it out.

Yes no harm in it, I do it with shallots.

I always start some of mine in 3" pots. Then plant them on using the bulb planter!
However, don't forget, that onions like firm ground when growing otherwise they have a tendancy to go to seed. And, red onion sets will have a tendancy to go to seed if planted to early.
