Title: Pipiche
Post by: squeezyjohn on September 04, 2018, 13:48:28
I've grown this delicious mexican herb for the past two years and just wanted to see if anyone else has also tried it.  It's fantastic in mexican food obviously ... but I've also been experimenting with it in other things like drinks and salad dressings too and wondered if anyone had any recipe ideas.

For those of you who haven't grown it, it's an annual tender herb and can be harvested from late July throughout the summer and early autumn from a March sowing in modules.  It seems to grow just fine here.  The taste is hard to describe ... I imagine if you don't like coriander leaf then this won't be for you though ... it's like a super charged coriander with a sharper, citrus flavour and a deeper savoury note as well.  The leaves are narrow and feathery and the plant is quite attractive with bell like purple flowers later in the year.  I've also tried the similar tasting papalo which looks more like a native weed and has a subtler more blackcurranty flavour, but I definitely prefer the pipiche.

If anyone has grown it, I'd love to hear what you're doing with it ... or if you've managed to get the flowers to produce seed which mine have not done yet.

Hi. I always like to try something new and this sounds great. Where did you get the seeds? I’d love to give this a try!
