Title: Fieldfares

We had a few Fieldfares in the garden today. They didn't stop long because the blackbirds had already scoffed the berries on the Pyracantha and the cotoneaster. the blackbirds were even eating the green ivy berries yesterday. Would sultanas be ok to put out for them?

Yes they are..and propably eat them faster than you can carry more from shop.. ::) ;D

Mine love sultanas and rasins, shirlton - I even soak the fruit overnight for them but I'm probably just spoiling them!

We save apples from the Autumn and put them out for the blackbirds and fieldfares. They can get through 10 lbs in a day.

They leave them till the weather gets cold and the apples are going soft in our garden. Is it same for you Palustris? I

There is an apple tree on our allotments which holds most of it's apples into the new year... I walked past it the day after the snow and about a hundred took off from behind the hedge... it was like a scene from the birds!  :o

The fieldfares don't usually arrive until it is cold, but the blackbirds are always around for the apples. The apples are in store and are fairly hard still.
