Title: chincherinchee bulbs
Post by: Emm P on June 04, 2005, 14:12:36
I have just seen a topic in Non Edible Plants, mentioning Chincherinchees.
I first saw these flowers, when I was serving my apprenticeship as a florist - more years ago than I care to remember!!!!
They were called the Rattlesnake flower, because, apparently, when they were growing in the fields (was it in South Africa?), when the wind blew through them, they made a noise like a rattlesnake.

Funny, the things which stick in your mind, isn't it.
 ;)

If I remember correctly, Marley - they are long lived flowers, too - aren't they?

It is funny how some things you never forget, isn't it.
I can still remember my boss holding a bunch of the flowers, and shaking them to let us hear the rattle.
Amazing.
 :)
