Another fantastic picture!.....so sorry tim to have put you to so much trouble.......how tho, can a thread go missing?  ???

If.......you (or anyone else) suddenly comes across it....please let me know because it was some of the remarks/comments that I wanted to re-read  :(

As my leaves are just coming out of the latest lot of compost which is now level with the top of pot...I've followed your example & pushed some support sticks into the pot & wrapped a double layer of fleece around the lot (tied up at top) in case we get a frost tonight....

Will I have to keep on doing this however tall the potato grows in the pot (like yours I hope) whenever there's likely to be a frost?

Sorry to ask so many questions but learning & need to know!

Better had! If they are outside. Ours, as you can see, are not! Hence their 'precociousness'.

You'll win - having half killed mine (now in flower) by over-watering!!

My - don't they look good!....my one that has stems & leaves up above level of compost & top of bucket -  stands outside all of the time (covered if frost threatened) seems to be doing well - stems look a bit 'lanky' but guess as more pop thru compost things will 'even up'a bit......the 'other one' I planted slightly later (different variety) I've 'topped up' twice with compost & soil mix but hasn't made any further appearances thru the soil in last few days....I'm wondering why?

:-\

I have two pots of pots...one romping away happily and the other one is not.

2nd one was planted a bit later, and it is growing, so think it's just another one of those things you need to be patient about!!

I finished planting my earlies and maincrop yesterday (May4) here in central Scotland. As one new to spud growing, I was guided by Jerry's posts and back on the 21st March I tried planting Red Duke, Sharpes Express, Foremost, Swift, and Lady Chrystl two sets each in  big pots outdoors. Red Duke are in the lead ( about 4" tall), Rocket are next, followed by Sharpe's Express. Swift and Lady C. are just showing but there's still no sign of Foremost.
