I bought four well-formed potted fruit trees last year. They are all budding already, though there was a small amount of dead wood on the ends of some branches caused by the extreme cold. I don't expect any fruit this year.

All my Lidl/Aldi blackcurrants seem to have survived the winter, ditto the raspberries and gooseberries... It's possible that the cherry that I bought in November and put in a pot hasn't made it despite being sheltered, it did get awful cold though.... so I might be buying a couple of cherries.... or a cherry and something else.... but I love cherries .....

Just got back from Lidl, bearing my 'Red Haven' peach and it's worth reporting that it looks every bit as good as the 'Peregrine' one I bought from Blackmoor last year: Healthy-looking, well-shaped, still dormant and with an eventual height of 2 to 3 metres, according to the label.

All for £6.99!   :)

I'll keep this one in a large pot, under cover for the winter and spray with Bordeaux mixture when I do the other one.

Do I need a second peach tree? Well, I certainly reckon I'll make good use of the fruits, when they come...probably end up buying a third freezer, though!  ;D

Thank you to everyone who keeps us informed about the latest bargains - it really is appreciated.

 :)

Plenty of blueberries here, nowhere anywhere near with suitable soil. ???  Bought some rose bushes some are very short of roots.  Would suggust a good feel or checking them out asap in the car park.

Did not see any arches or long handled tools.  But bought a nice stainless steel onion hoe for 1.99 and mangos were very cheap and they now have low fat greek yohurts.

Got a couple of gooseberries they are actually named varieties.  Hinnomaki Gul.  though pity they are not red.

We bought three types of strawbs and a blackberry today, all look reasonably healthy. Also got some Asparagus; might not work, but at just over £1 it's got to be worth a try!
