Title: LOWEST OF THE YEAR?
Post by: ancellsfarmer on April 26, 2013, 20:40:48
NOTICED TONIGHT THAT WICKES ARE OFFERING 70L MULTI-PURPOSE COMPOST (THEIR OWN BRAND) AT £3.00 PER BAG. ANY BETTER PRICES AROUND?

But is it any better than last years?

I bought a couple of 20L bags from tescos at 20p per bag.

Would not buy it unless I had seen the content - at one point last year it was multi-purpose woodchip!

I bought some last year and it was multipurpose shredded hedge trimmings - leylandii.  No where near as good quality as the recycled compost I can buy for £1 a bag.

Bought some last year.  Took it back and got refund.  It was as above.

I've been using Asda's own brand - 3 x 70l for £10, this year and last year. It seems to be of a reasonable quality for small pots and sowing. Stuff's germinating and growing well in it anyway. For big planters and soil conditioning I use the council stuff, which I'm lucky to get for free, although it needs bagging on-site and sieving.
