I have a clump of these in a dry corner. they are starting to flower but most of the leaves have gone brown so the plant doesn't look great.. on closer inspection a lot of the leaves have a green stripe up the middle. Should I cut the leaves back, or might they recover now we've had some rain?

Personally I would just leave them alone as they are tough as old boots. If any of the leaves have folded over I might be tempted to cut these down to the fold,other than than as I say;I would leave them alone!

My 'Lucifer' flowered early and, despite watering, the flowers didn't last, the leaves went totally brown and I've cut them all right back as if it was October. My ordinary ones, that I still think of as montbretia, didn't even make it to flowering before they crisped up. So they've had the chop as well, only time will tell if I've done the right thing!
What a season, eh.
