There will be a total lunar eclipse on Tuesday morning, when the Earth casts a shadow onto the Moon.
On the day of the winter solstice, December 21, the full Moon will start to pass through the cone of Earth's shadow at 6.32am.
The partial eclipse begins when the Moon first enters the dark inner, umbral part of the Earth's shadow, and will become a total eclipse at 7.40am.
It will reach its maximum at 8.17am, and end at 8.

I have a feeling it should be an evergreen tree & it should also have a star on the top to remind us of the eclipse.

Too cloudy to see the moon.
Too cold to dance naked around anything.
Too early to be bothered.

Thanks for sharing that info Jim. I found it very interesting. Shall be up looking for it. Hope I don't see them silly buggers dancing around tho that would be too much.

With sunrise at 8.11 it must be happening very close to the horizon but lots of clouds here. Interest too but will also past on the nude prancing though worried this might adversely affect my crops next year. Can I do a bit of kissing under the mistletoe instead?

Now im of to bed with the intension of making sure im watching the skys early (even if it is out the bedroom window with tea. but i bet around 9 ill have this feeling that ive forgotton to do something.

I watched it from my bed- through the frost on the insideof the Velux!
Interesting to see but a bit disappointing in the climax- very pale and slightly pink rather than red. Radio 4 reckoned it was best north of Newcastle.

Yes we are completely clouded in now, but I did notice that this morning it was unusually dark. Wonder if that was related?

We've had 3 days of completely cloudless skies then the cloud covered the moon in the middle of the night, still, a naked dance in my thick jamas and slippers wouldn't have quite done it ;D

Those who miss it this time will have to wait – the next such eclipse is not due until 2094

Luna eclipses are like buses, none for a while then 3 come at once, I'm assuming 2094 is the next time one falls on the winter solstice?

My littlun' (for littlun' read 24) said he was awake at 6.45am and the sky had a nice orangey pink tinge to it :)

I did go out looking for the pink moon, but was not visible from here.
Still, passed the shortest day, days are getting longer. Time to start thinking of what we're going to be growing. ;D

Darn, I didn't see this thread until it was too late. I could have gone out down the village with nothing on but my wellies and danced to my hearts content.
I did notice that there were about 15 people at Stonehenge when I went out to get some shopping yesterday. I thought they must be mad visiting the stones in this weather. They weren't naked though! ;D

Out there at 0630hrs and by 0638hrs the darn thing had been hidden by the cloud.
Oh well have to be in a coffin by the time it comes around again. Dont think I will live to be over the 130yr mark unless the medical technoligy is in place for most of us. ;)
