I have continued with the "Galaxy" them for todays jigsaw.

This is the exhibit that won best in class.

It is named: Gravitational Pull

The inspiration for this garden comes from the gravitational pull around a Black Hole

The centre piece is a 1.8 metre (6ft) diameter cone formed of steel and recycled scaffold boards.

Because it is so large and to do the exhibit justice, I have decided to give you the front and side views ( two for the price of one)

The front view has 81 pieces.

The side view has 80 pieces.

Todays jigsaw is titled:

A Stainless Century

This exhibit represents the centenary of the Invention of Stainless Steel in Sheffield, and was awarded 'Best in Show'

The water rill represents the flow of molten steel flowing out of a crucible.

The pond in the foreground consists of scraps of stainless steel.

The Pergola represents the Peace Garden in the centre of the city.

After the show the garden was re-erected in in the ground of a Retirement Home.

It has 70 pieces.

This 72 piece jigsaw is titled

Interplanetary Travel - A Flight of Fancy

This garden was designed and constructed by the current owners of Tatton Park, and has been designed to fit in with the parks theme for 2012 Flights of Fancy.

Previous owners of Tatton Park estate have travelled far and wide over the years to collect plants for the gardens.

So as a flight of fancy they have decided to use a 1930's style rocket ship to do just that.

The depiction is that of a rocketship that has crash landed on a distant planet, and the plant contents within the hold of the rocketship have spilled out onto the barren soil and produced a veritable floral oasis.

This garden won a Silver gilt medal.

I like the misty effect behind where the nose of the spaceship has crashed. Is this a trick of the eye or something ?

That is a great garden.  I love it.  All those greens and browns were difficult though.

I have to say the gardens at Tatton seem to be very imaginative, I think the Chelsea ones are very staid in comparison.

The present owners of Tatton Park are the National Trust, and I find it amazing they might have anything to do with such an amazing flight of fancy.  Though perhaps its ok if it is temporary and got rid of as soon as possible.  They are not usually known for innovation.  Tatton is administered by Cheshire East Council, so perhaps they had a hand in it.

Not sure what it was but my guess would be clouds of dry ice as used in theatres for smokey effects.

I am a little unsure as to what you mean Digeroo but the flights of fancy were done by the original owners of the house and park, and the plant life they found and brought back  was installed in their garden, which is open to the public (free to RHS members)

If you ever get the chance to see them it is well worth the trip.

I had a slide show of my visit on my last website but have never got around to putting it on this version.

Perhaps one of these days I will get around to resurrecting it!

Regarding the Cheshire CC involvement I think you are quite right to think they were involved and I guess it would come out of their Tourist Attraction budget.

BTW I am glad to see that some of you are enjoying these jigsaws it makes the effort I put into it feel worth while.

Thanks    Tg

I have done just that and you can see it here:

http://www.thegardenersalmanac.co.uk/Blogspot/Tatton%20Gardens/Tatton%20Park.htm (http://www.thegardenersalmanac.co.uk/Blogspot/Tatton%20Gardens/Tatton%20Park.htm)

Please accept my apologies for the quality of the slide show.

Since producing these I have purchased better slide show software and perhaps I will get around to improving the blog in due course.

I have only connected these for use here in A4A and they will only remain on my website for a limited period, e.g. until such time as  I need the space for other projects.

It was the fact that the issue of the Tatton Park history was raised in this thread that I thought I would try and clarify the situation.

I hope you don't mind me collaring this thread to do this.....Tg

I thought the title of this garden was very apt !

Picking up the Pieces

Picking up the Pieces has been designed by female prisoners at HM Prisons who have undertaken City & Guilds horticultural qualifications

During their studies the women chose and defined the concept of Picking up the Pieces as an aspiration, and a wish to move forward in their lives.

The garden is intended as a metaphor for overcoming obstacles as well as a place in which to reflect and realise that every situation can be overcome.

Picking up the Pieces has inspired many prisoners going through difficult times to fulfil their potential.

The garden is enclosed on three sides by a bespoke jigsaw

Each piece of the jigsaw represents different aspects of our communities.

By working together we can build positive relationships and achieve much through education and support.

It has 80 pieces
