Title: Tomatoe Query
Post by: Simon05 on August 15, 2005, 16:48:32
just picked some tomatoes today, I was wondering if its common for the trusses to start growing a stalk at the end of the truss?

Only too common.

I was told that it was due to overwatering - but don't quote me!!

Tim,

thanks for the info, I wondered why it was happening, I think tomatoes would keep growing, making the tomatoes smaller and smaller.

I was told this was due to overfeeding, just trim it that's what I do and plant is fine.

Vez, thanks - I meant overfeeding!!

Later - but not all plants suffer, despite the same routine!

And we do a dilute feed at every watering.

Mine are doing that, Gardeners' Delight and Marmande.
Thing is, I haven't fed them at all. Just dug in some manure before planting.

I'm leaving them to their own devices (apart from nipping out the sideshoots) and getting an excellent crop.   :)
