Title: leaves from council
Post by: Sarah-b on November 17, 2004, 09:19:47
Our town council gathers up the leaves from the parks and the streets and then dumps them on a vacant plot on our allotment site. (A plot very near mine too!)

Isn't that nice of them  ;D

Ours, In Norwich, does that too. But they wouldn`t deliver to our particular site for years because they said they couldn`t get the trucks through the gate.
Then a couple of weeks ago I spotted a work gang taking away the leaves near our site that I was going to get myself. I spoke to the driver and he agreed to give it a try...The drivers of the smaller trucks are now delivering to us too so now we have all the leaves we could ever use.  So that shows its always worth asking.  ;D

I've just sent an email to my council with regards to waste/compost asking why cant we buy it or better still have it delivered to our site seems stupid if they can give it to us so as to free up space and recycle something else at the depot will let you know how they tell me to get lost  ;D

Hi Everybody, our council - Kennet District Council charges £75.00 for a 3 tonne skip load of recycled "Green" compost

Our council has been a star to deal with ( Nottingham ). Their driver was given my mobile number and he's waited till he was doing woodland clearance to drop us 8 ton of rotted leaves for nothing. He knows his stuff as he chose not to deliver earlier as he knew he had a good type of load coming. It's almost ready to use.
The recycling depot also has household waste compost available at £1 a bag.

Hi All

Our council gives away its compost about 3 times a year, downside is you have to collect it yourself. I used an old 1 tonne sandbag in the back of the motor.

Just taken on my allotment about 4 weeks ago so far dug about 1/3rd

Cheers
