Title: Patio rose
Post by: davholla on September 16, 2020, 19:29:22
I want to grow a rose on the patio  - any advice?
It might have to be in the shade.
I live in South East London

Most Roses will stand a bit of shade so it depends a lot on how you define 'shade'

Here are a few photos to give you some ideas;

I have a Souvenir du Dr Jamain.. dark red heavily scented climber. It's on a North facing wall and thrives, despite being in the shade of the house for most of the day.

I always think a patio rose, presumably in a pot, needs to be a repeat flowerer and fragrant.

David Austin roses suggest these - https://www.davidaustinroses.co.uk/collections/potted?_=pf&pf_t_ideal_for=filter_ideal_for%3A%20Shady%20Areas&pf_t_availability=filter_delivery_type%3A%20Potted%20Rose

I'm sure the Peter Beales and Harkness roses sites also have some ideas for potted roses in shady areas.
